Ryan Reynolds-Owned Wrexham Urged To Pursue Deal for Real Madrid Legend As They Chase Premier League Promotion

A former Spain and Barcelona midfielder has urged Wrexham, co-owned by Ryan Reynolds, to sign a Real Madrid legend this month.

EFL Championship team Wrexham, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, has popped up as a major success story over the last few campaigns. And a former Spain international has urged Wrexham to sign a Real Madrid legend this month.

But which Los Blancos great has been namedropped as a potential Wrexham signing?

Wrexham Told To Snap Up Real Madrid Icon in January

Wrexham, who have gained promotion in each of their last three seasons, are competing in the second tier of the English soccer league system this term. They are in ninth spot in the EFL Championship table with 40 points from 26 matches, just one point off a playoff spot.

With the Welsh club chasing an astonishing fourth successive promotion now, ex-Barcelona and Valencia star Gaizka Mendieta has insisted that Wrexham should sign Sergio Ramos.

“Wrexham are a huge story, they have been followed here in Spain, it’s a romantic story and a global phenomenon. Having a Spanish player there would be special, we see teams signing players from different countries like Japan and others to create a market there,” Mendieta said in a recent interview with BoyleSports.

Mendieta, who also played with Middlesbrough, concluded, “I’m sure Wrexham have considered that, it would be fantastic to see a Spanish player there and why not Sergio Ramos? It’s been rumoured that he wants to buy Sevilla, but he is a free agent and still wants to play so why not. It’s an option.”

Ramos, 39, is currently a free agent after being released by Mexican outfit Monterrey at the end of his contract last month. He would offer valuable mentorship to young defenders like Max Cleworth and Callum Doyle should he secure a Bosman move to the Welsh team.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup winner, who made 671 total appearances for Real Madrid, netted 3 goals in 19 overall outings for Monterrey in 2025, according to Transfermarkt.

Real Madrid Identify Bundesliga Defender As Top Target

According to Bild, Real Madrid has earmarked Borussia Dortmund man Nico Schlotterbeck as a potential summer signing. They are likely to intensify their efforts to sign the German following reports that Dayot Upamecano is expected to sign a new Bayern Munich deal.

With Schlotterbeck’s current deal set to run out in June 2027, Borussia Dortmund are set to demand at least $58 million for their centre-back’s signature. On the other hand, the player is believed to be open to the idea of joining Los Blancos in the upcoming summer.

A left-footed ball-playing defender, Schlotterbeck has made 142 overall appearances for the Bundesliga outfit since arriving from SC Freiburg in 2022. He has found the back of the net 7 times and contributed 18 assists for Dortmund.
