EFL Championship team Wrexham, part-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, has slowly emerged as one of the most notable soccer success stories. And, they are reportedly set to face reigning Premier League champions Liverpool in the United States this year.
Wrexham To Take On Liverpool in Pre-Season Friendly
According to The Athletic, Wrexham are set to play three pre-season matches in the United States after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They will face Premier League sides Liverpool, Leeds United, and Sunderland between late July and early August.
The Phil Parkinson-coached outfit will first take on Leeds at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on Jul. 25, five days after the FIFA World Cup final. They will then take on Liverpool at Yankee Stadium, home of the baseball team New York Yankees and Major League Soccer (MLS) side New York City FC, on Wednesday, Jul. 29. Lastly, the Welsh club will play against Sunderland in the final game of the series at Subaru Park in Philadelphia on Aug. 2.
Wrexham, who previously went on tour to the U.S. in 2023 and 2024, are currently in sixth spot in the 2025-26 EFL Championship table. They are on 57 points from 35 matches, 4 points ahead of Southampton. Should they end the campaign between third and sixth, they would feature in the Championship playoffs for the final Premier League promotion spot.
On the other hand, Liverpool have endured a sub-par season after lifting their 20th English top-flight title in the 2024-25 term. They are now fifth in the Premier League table with 48 points from 29 matches, trailing leaders Arsenal by a staggering 16 points.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea and Wrexham defender Frank Sinclair has heaped big praise on the Reynolds-owned team for trying to earn a fourth successive promotion this term.
“When they were in the conference… if you had told me that in four seasons’ time, they’re going to be in the Premier League, I would have said you’re crazy, because of how difficult it is to adapt to going from league to league. Massive credit to them,” he told GOAL.
Sinclair, who also played for Leicester City and Burnley, added, “I thought if they’d finished mid-table in their first season in the Championship, you’d say that is massive progress. But to be up there competing in and around the playoffs and actually be in the conversation for an automatic Premier League position is unbelievable, to be honest with you.”
Parkinson’s club will next face Chelsea in an FA Cup fifth-round clash on Saturday, Mar. 7.
