Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac Sell Minority Stake in Wrexham to LaLiga Club Owners

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenne have made a surprising decision that could have a direct impact on the future of Wrexham and a LaLiga giant.

The enormous early success achieved by Wrexham prompted an attitude from Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac that was widely questioned by fans, with part of the shares sold to the owners of one of LaLiga’s leading clubs.

Wrexham Was Partially Purchased By Atlético Madrid Owners

The Welsh club sold a minority stake to Apollo Sports Capital (ASC), a US-based asset management company. As a result, the current owners of Atlético Madrid became minority partners in the team, which is currently in 6th place in the Championship and has a good chance of promotion to the Premier League.

According to AS, the agreement signed in December last year aims to provide Wrexham with additional financial support for the restructuring of its stadium, Stok Cae Ras. Despite this, no significant changes are expected to the successful project, as Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac will remain the club’s controlling owners.

ASC, the majority owner of Atlético Madrid, acquired a stake in the Spanish club last November. Now, the acquisition of shares in the Welsh club represents another step in its expansion in European soccer. Miguel Ángel Gil and Enrique Cerezo remain at the helm of the eleven-time Spanish champions.

According to local media reports, construction of the new Kop stand is progressing rapidly. In a joint statement, Reynolds and Mac expressed their delight at the progress of the club’s business: “The desire has always been to lead this team to the Premier League while maintaining the authenticity of the city. Growth of this magnitude requires world-class partners who share our vision and determination, and Apollo is a perfect fit.”

Lee Solomon, Apollo partner and ASC co-portfolio manager, said: “Wrexham is on an incredible journey, and we are excited to be part of it and to support the Club, the Wrexham community, Rob, and Ryan. This is a multifaceted investment where Apollo Sports Capital can provide long-term patient capital to help Wrexham achieve its goals and contribute to the ongoing revitalization of the facilities and the local economy.”

Wrexham Closer And Closer To The Premier League

As mentioned earlier, Wrexham is currently in 6th place in the Championship, England’s second division, and is in the playoff zone on goal difference. For the newly promoted team, the dream of reaching the Premier League is growing, and increased financial support will give them more opportunities to compete in the grueling 46-game season, widely regarded as the most difficult in the world outside Europe’s top five divisions.
