‘Ruins Your Tactics’ — USMNT Star Tyler Adams Names Manchester United Star As Toughest PL Opponent

Tyler Adams has faced some of the best stars in the world since moving to the Premier League in 2022 and has now named the toughest opponent

Tyler Adams has been in the Premier League for some time and was close to making a big switch to Chelsea. He has faced some of the best players in the world, and has now named his toughest opponent.

Tyler Adams Says Bruno Fernandes ‘Ruins’ Defensive Game Plans

Adams has been in fine form for AFC Bournemouth since joining them in 2023 and has played a key role under Andoni Iraola. He joined the Cherries after a season at Leeds United following their relegation from the Premier League.

The USMNT star was talking to the “Men In Blazers” podcast earlier this week, when he was quick to name Bruno Fernandes as his toughest opponent in the league. He said that the Manchester United star was hard to mark as he was always drifting away and finding pockets for his teammates to pass to him.

Adams added that Fernandes was a ‘ridiculously talented’ player, and his movement on the pitch disrupted the opponent’s tactics, preventing them from shutting him out. He claimed that it was difficult to predict where the Red Devils captain would be on the pitch and said:

“I think I would have to say Bruno Fernandes because he’s one of those players that he can again make something out of nothing, but also he just goes and finds the game. So, he completely ruins your tactics of the way that you want to play. It’s like, oh, Bruno Fernandes should be here, but 70% of the game he won’t be there. So, it’s like I’m not really around him. I’m not able to really defend him. So, it becomes difficult, but he’s a ridiculously talented player.”

Adams was close to joining Chelsea in 2023, after the Moises Caicedo saga drew out longer than expected. The American star had a medical after they activated his $25 million release clause, but pulled out of the deal due to fears about his hamstring injury.

The Blues ended up signing Caicedo and adding Romeo Lavia from Southampton. The Belgian has dealt with injury issues throughout his career at Stamford Bridge and has played just 30 times in the last three seasons.

The USMNT captain was linked with a move to Manchester United in the January 2026 window, but the Red Devils opted against signing any player. Moreover, the American tore a ligament in his knee, ruling out any transfer in the winter window.

A summer move cannot be ruled out, as Man United are parting ways with Casemiro and could return for the USMNT star.
