Playing at the FIFA World Cup is a dream for all soccer players. No player in the world would give up the opportunity to represent his country at the tournament, and some go to extreme lengths to make it happen.
USMNT Star Keen on Playing Again at FIFA World Cup
After six seasons at Nashville SC, Walker Zimmerman is heading to Toronto FC. The 32-year-old has joined the Canadian side on a free transfer after his contract with the Coyotes came to an end.
The MLS veteran is keen to chase silverware and has said it remains his biggest motivation since he started his career. The defender said he wants to follow the footsteps of Darlington Nagbe and help his side win trophies in every season possible.
Speaking to the media for the first time since making the move, Zimmerman told GOAL that he was unsure how free agency worked as his contract with Nashville SC was coming to an end. He is delighted to have joined the Canadian side and said:
“I want to win everywhere I go. That’s always been something, for me, that I’ve wanted. Ever since I started my career, I wanted to be known as a winner. You think of a guy like a Darlington Nagbe, and he’s a perfect example of how important he is to his clubs. He’s won everywhere, and you can’t dispute it. I would love to win everywhere I go.”

Talking about his ambitions for the FIFA World Cup, Zimmerman added that he has been dreaming of playing in the 2026 edition ever since he played at Qatar 2022. He said that it has been driving him to do well and is hoping that his winning mentality helps the USMNT, too, and said:
“I would love to be a part of another World Cup. The second I finished the other one, I was like, ‘Man, I want to do that again’. Just the pressure, the stakes, the opportunity, the drive, the work that it takes to get there, it’s addictive. It’s something that you want again. You want those feelings again, so that’s certainly a goal.”
The USMNT advanced from the group stage in the 2022 edition, finishing second behind England. However, they were knocked out by the Netherlands in the Round of 16, with the Dutch side winning 3-1.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men will be hoping to do better this time around, as they will have the crowd behind them in the home games.
