Following Mohamed Salah’s remarks about alleged mistreatment by Liverpool, a number of fans and pundits have shared their two cents on the situation. Reds legend Steven Gerrard has become the latest individual to opine on the Egyptian’s comments.
So, what did the former Liverpool and Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder have to say?
Steven Gerrard Hopes To See Mohamed Salah Back Playing for Liverpool
After Salah was left out of Liverpool’s travelling party for their 1-0 UEFA Champions League win at Inter Milan earlier this Tuesday, Gerrard has sympathized with the winger. However, he has also claimed that the 33-year-old should have been more composed.
“He’s obviously really upset he’s not playing which I respect. He won’t sit out the team, I respect. A couple of lines about throwing people under the bus, wrong. He needs to reverse a little bit away from that, he needs to deal with that with the manager. This needs Virgil van Dijk to go, I was sorting this out for the benefit of not even so much the club or the team, it’s the fans,” Gerrard said on TNT Sports.
“At the end of the day, Liverpool football club need Mo Salah back playing well”

The 45-year-old continued, “I’ve seen this and I’ve lived it. I’ve lived it with (Luis) Suarez when he fell out with Brendan (Rodgers) face to face. I’ve seen it all and I’ve been there myself from a personal point of view. I’ve done the Salah statement in my thirties against Manchester United, and got sent off. So, no one’s perfect. We’ve all had head loss as players. We’ve all done emotional things.”
Hoping to see Salah reintegrated into Liverpool’s squad, Gerrard concluded, “I know in time when this all calms, Mo will go, ‘I shouldn’t have said that and I was a bit emotional, I was a bit hasty.’ But at the end of the day, Liverpool football club need Mo Salah back playing well, back scoring goals because he is the best player, the best scorer, and he will help them get out of this. If this goes on, this is bigger than what we all know and what we see.”

How Has Salah Fared for Liverpool This Season?
Since the start of the ongoing 2025-26 season, Salah has started 16 of his 19 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool. He has contributed just five goals and three assists in 1524 minutes of action for his side so far.
Salah, who has not featured in three of the Reds’ last four matches, is expected not to play in his club’s next contest. He could remain excluded from the Merseyside outfit’s squad for their Premier League home clash against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, December 13.
Meanwhile, the former Chelsea and AS Roma attacker has recently been linked with a move away from the Anfield team. He has drawn interest from the likes of Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal and Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit San Diego FC, as per journalist Ben Jacobs.
