Scott McTominay has been in fine form for Napoli since moving from Man United and went on to help them win the Serie A title last season. The Scotsman has been linked with a move back to Old Trafford, and he has now revealed his stance.
Former Man United Star Claims To Be Happy To Stay at Napoli
Manchester United needs a midfielder this summer, and they have been linked with a move for McTominay. The Red Devils see their former academy star as the ideal player to bring in following Casemiro’s departure, but the Scotsman might have other plans.
The 29-year-old is enjoying his life in Italy and has no plans to move from the country. He revealed that his family is also happy with the current situation and hinted that he wants to extend his contract with the club.
“I am extremely happy here and, as far as I am concerned, I am a Napoli player. It is all I think about. The future is very important, and I could see myself in Napoli for a long time. I love this place. Difficulties have been minimal, my family is happy and I’m happy.”
The comments will come as a relief for Napoli’s global business development officer Leonardo Giammarioli, who claimed that it would be difficult for the club to keep hold of the midfielder. He believed that the Scotsman would attract interest from several clubs worldwide and admitted that the former Man Utd star would also consider leaving the club.
“Of course we’re worried. But Scott deserves to keep progressing. Maybe not now, maybe not next season, but if the right opportunity comes along in the future, he’s earned it.”
Man United sold McTominay to Napoli for $33 million, retaining a 10% sell-on clause. They are now working on a deal to bring the midfielder back to the club and have reportedly made an offer.
According to a report from Football 365, the Red Devils are willing to offer $94 million to Napoli, which is open to selling the prized asset. The Italian side is not looking to stand in the way of the midfielder, as contract talks have not progressed.
Man United does have an upper hand over other clubs interested in signing McTominay. They have loaned Rasmus Hojlund to the Naples side, who is looking to sign him on a permanent deal, and could be used in a move to lure the Scotsman back.
