Chasing an astonishing fourth successive promotion, EFL Championship outfit Wrexham are believed to be keen to bolster their squad this month. And, the Ryan Reynolds-owned team are reportedly interested in signing a striker for a club-record $26 million package.
So, who is the mystery attacker Wrexham are adamant about snapping up in January?
Wrexham Keen to Break Bank for 19-Year-Old
According to journalist Alan Nixon, Wrexham have lodged an official bid to lure Sidiki Cherif away from Ligue 1 club Angers SCO in the ongoing winter transfer window. The Welsh side are keen to pay Angers $16 million up front and $10 million in potential bonuses.
Wrexham, who are currently just two points off a Championship playoff place, are aiming to convince Cherif to join the team by promising regular game time. They feel the 19-year-old will reject Premier League side Crystal Palace for the sake of his steady development.
Cherif, who has a contract until June 2028 at Angers, broke into his club’s senior team in the 2023-24 season, featuring in nine overall matches. He made just seven appearances across competitions last season due to a lengthy injury. However, he has emerged as a key starter for Angers this season, scoring four goals in 19 total games in the process.

Should the Crystal Palace target choose to join the Phil Parkinson-coached outfit, he could prove to be a great signing for them. He would initially serve as a backup to Kieffer Moore before potentially establishing himself as the Championship club’s starting striker.
Wrexham Backed To Rope In FIFA World Cup Winner
During a recent chat with Grosvenor Casinos, former Manchester United striker Louis Saha advised 2018 FIFA World Cup winner Paul Pogba to depart AS Monaco this summer.
“He has to really think about his future. AS Monaco has been great to provide him the right platform for him to improve. I will see in the summer what his situation is going to be, how many games he has played. I am sure that clubs will be interested,” Saha remarked.
Posed with the question whether Pogba would be a fine signing for Wrexham, Saha replied, “It would be fantastic for social media. Paul has his eyes on Hollywood and wants to be an actor in some way, so it might make a lot of sense.”
Pogba, who will turn 33 in March, has made just three appearances across all competitions for Monaco since arriving on a Bosman move last July. He has missed a number of matches for his current club due to thigh, calf, and ankle issues since the start of the season.
