Wrexham, owned by Hollywood acting duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has emerged as a success story thanks to three consecutive promotions. Now, they are set to lock horns with Premier League giants Chelsea in their next FA Cup game. Reynolds has expressed his shock and excitement at the latest FA Cup development.
Wrexham Co-Owner Elated After Chelsea Matchup
Earlier this Monday, Feb. 16, Reynolds’ team was drawn to face eight-time FA Cup winners Chelsea in the cup competition’s fifth round in the ongoing 2025-26 season. They advanced to the last-16 stage of the competition after beating Ipswich Town 1-0.
Soon after the FA Cup draw, Reynolds posted a video on X, showing his live reaction to the announcement. He was accompanied by his ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ co-star Hugh Jackman, who initially smiled before high-fiving the Wrexham co-owner in enthusiasm.
Reynolds, who officially bought the Welsh club in February 2021, initially asked if the game will take place at his club’s home stadium, Racecourse Ground. Jackman responded, “Home with Chelsea! That’s what you wanted!” Reynolds subsequently clapped his hands in elation before saying, “Yes! F**k! What the f**k?” towards the end of the video.
Wrexham, who defeated Premier League club Nottingham Forest on penalties in the FA Cup third round, will host the Blues on Mar. 7. They will be aiming to be at their best against the Blues, who have already beaten two EFL Championship clubs in the competition.
Chelsea, who are currently fifth in the Premier League table, first defeated Charlton Athletic 5-1 in their FA Cup third round contest. Liam Rosenior’s side then triumphed over Hull City, scoring four goals and conceding none away from home last Friday.

Meanwhile, Wrexham legend Mickey Thomas has urged his former team not to lose sight of their primary goal: achieving a fourth straight promotion this season.
“Bristol City tonight is a massive game. They have to focus on that. Phil Parkinson will have them up and ready for that game… no question about that. But the Chelsea build-up, it will be slightly a distraction for them. Hopefully they can focus on the main priority… getting to that Premier League,” the former Wales winger told BBC Radio Wales Breakfast.
Wrexham, who will visit Bristol City in a Championship clash on Tuesday, Feb. 16, are just a point away from a play-off spot. They are eighth with 47 points from 31 league matches so far, having scored 44 goals and conceded 39 times in the process.
