Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s Stance on Wrexham Boss Phil Parkinson’s Future Revealed

Wrexham owners make bold comment on manager Phil Parkinson's future at the club as they look to get Premier League promotion.

Phil Parkinson has done a tremendous job at Wrexham, earning them back-to-back-to-back promotion. Their next stop is the Premier League, a different level where managers need experience to succeed or even help the team avoid relegation.

Wrexham Owners Make Decision on Phil Parkinson

Wrexham appointed Parkinson in 2021, and the manager missed out on promotion in his first season but has been on a roll since. The topic of a sack has not been discussed at the club, and co-owners Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds have full confidence in their coach.

Speaking to The Athletic, Mac revealed that Parkinson trusted them with the project and has been the vital figure for the success. He added that the manager spoke about the possible sack in the future in their initial conversations and said:

“Phil has been the lynchpin of this entire thing. For him to take that risk and to come on that journey with us – no, create that journey and the blueprint – has been… critical is not the word… essential is not the word. I don’t know I have the words to fully describe how integral Phil has been to the story and success of Wrexham. He said to me very early in our conversations, ‘One thing I know for sure is you will fire me one day’. I said, ‘Really?’.”

Mac went on to say that they have discussed the manager’s future at the club and do not see any reason to part ways. They hailed him as the architect of their success and claimed that he had the job until he wanted to leave for another club.

“He said every football manager knows at some stage he will get fired. I said, ‘OK, that’s fair, and I get that’s part of the gig’. But, Ryan and I talk all the time, and I just don’t see a scenario where Phil Parkinson gets fired. It doesn’t make any sense. He has been the architect, the creator of this. From our perspective, he’s got the job for life. Unless he finds another job he wants to go off and do, he’s our coach. He’s our manager.”

Reynolds echoed the comments, insisting that Parkinson was their ‘community leader’ and that nothing was planned at the club without him in the middle.

Wrexham currently sit in sixth place after 31 matches and need to finish in the Top Six to qualify for the playoffs, where they could reach the Premier League.
