Manchester United is slowly getting closer to the top of the Premier League table, with the results improving. However, one key change made by Ruben Amorim has been the formation, which came after months of denying that the squad was good enough for it.
Manchester United Manager Hints at Tension at the Club
In his press conference ahead of the Leeds United game, Amorim stated that the club was not planning to sign any players in the winter transfer window. He said that there were no discussions with the club hierarchy, adding that he is focused only on the games ahead.
“The transfer window is not going to change. We have no conversations at this moment to have any change in the squad. There’s a process, there’s an idea that is going to continue. We are near the places of the Champions League, but we are also near like eight teams behind us. So let’s focus on the next game, just that. Our focus is to win the next game.”
The Guardian journalist, Jamie Jackson, was not convinced by the manager’s answers and questioned if the change in tone and formation was down to the club’s unwillingness to spend. He wanted to know if the decision-makers were forcing the coach to work with what was handed to him and questioned:
“You’re starting to understand that to play your 3-4-3, you, in essence, need to have a lot of top players, and it sounds like that’s NOT possible. Can I ask why you didn’t realise that when you first came into the club, or can you clarify what you meant?”

Amorim was quick to sidestep the question, saying that he did not want to comment more on the situation and was focused on the Leeds United game. Jackson was not moved and continued to question why the manager was not answering, as he had always liked explaining himself.

“I’ll try one more time. Looking at those comments, it’s a little bit mystifying why you would say that a year in that you only just realised. Has something changed with regards to the budget, or what you’ve been told? Did Jason Wilcox maybe speak to you?”
Amorim once again brushed aside the question, but hinted that Wilcox’s decisions could be a key reason for the change in formation at the club. He refused to comment but complimented the journalist, calling him ‘smart’ and hinting that they were getting a clear picture of the club’s situation behind the scenes.
