Ronald Araújo Insists Barcelona ‘Can Still Win’ Two Trophies This Season After Copa del Rey Exit

Ronald Araújo makes bold prediction about Barcelona's chances in LaLiga and UCL after Copa del Rey exit.

Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo asserted that no blame could be placed on the team after their elimination from the Copa del Rey semi-finals against Atlético Madrid, praising the effort and spirit displayed by the squad despite falling short over the two legs.

Ronald Araújo Expresses Pride in Barcelona’s Effort Despite Copa del Rey Exit

Barcelona produced a spirited performance but narrowly missed out on a comeback against Atlético Madrid. Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Marc Bernal all played key roles in their 3–0 win on the night. However, Atlético’s 4–0 victory in the first leg proved decisive.

Barcelona pressed for a fourth goal, with coach Hansi Flick deploying Ronald Araújo as an emergency striker late in the game. Atlético held on, and their 4–3 win on aggregate sends them to the Copa del Rey final, where they will face either Real Sociedad or Athletic Club.

After the match, Uruguayan center-back Ronald Araújo acknowledged that the first leg determined the outcome.

Despite Barcelona’s strong performance in the second leg, the initial deficit was too great to overcome. “No blame can be directed at the team; we gave everything,” Araújo said. “The first leg made things difficult for us. The team presented itself excellently, we won the match, but we just needed a little more.”

Despite the disappointment, Araújo remains optimistic about Barcelona’s season. He emphasized that maintaining this level of intensity and determination could lead to success in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. “By playing this way, we can win the two remaining championships we have this season,” he added.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick expressed pride in his team despite not reaching the Copa del Rey final. After the game, Flick admitted disappointment but praised the players’ commitment.

“Obviously, I am sad because we did not achieve our objective of reaching the final in Seville, but we can be very proud.” He also noted Barcelona created many opportunities and could have scored more goals.

“We had chances to score four or five goals and we have to focus on that for the games and challenges coming up,” he added. Flick highlighted the squad’s attitude and effort, saying the players gave everything on the pitch.

Barcelona will play Athletic Club away from home at the San Mames in their next LaLiga clash before their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash against Newcastle.
