Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand has found himself involved in an online dispute over a 2026 FIFA World Cup issue with Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher, who has recently been in the news for berating Mohamed Salah.
But what did the former Red Devils star say to invoke a reaction from the ex-Reds ace?
Jamie Carragher Reacts After Rio Ferdinand’s Mohamed Salah Observation
After Carragher recently suggested that Salah had thrown Liverpool under the bus with his post-match comments, the Reds star returned to a rapturous welcome earlier on Saturday. He assisted Hugo Ekitike’s second goal in his team’s 2-0 home league win against Brighton & Hove Albion.
In an attempt to poke fun at Carragher, Ferdinand pointed out the Anfield crowd’s reaction and posted on X: “Thoughts @Carra23? ‘Mo Salah’ being sung by the Kop.”
However, Carragher was quick to hit back at Ferdinand, who attended the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw last week. He wrote on X: “And rightly so, he was fantastic when he came on. Thoughts on the price of the World Cup tickets @rioferdy5? A man of the people would surely call @FIFAcom & (FIFA president Gianni) Infantino out. Or was your pay packet for the draw to buy your silence?”
Carragher’s comments follow the recent uproar about the price of the 2026 FIFA World Cup tickets. With the cheapest 2026 FIFA World Cup final ticket available at $4,185, Ferdinand is yet to speak about fans’ concerns.

Pundit Likens Salah to Former Manchester United Superstar
Manchester United great Gary Neville has claimed that Salah emulated Al-Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo in the way he handled his interview against Liverpool’s leadership.
“I wouldn’t see it from an ordinary player’s side. But when you have this level of player that’s almost the best in the world, which I’d put Mo Salah up there with, you sometimes… not have to accept what he’s done because Cristiano Ronaldo did it (in 2022) and I didn’t take to it too kindly at all because I think those players have an expectancy to bring everybody along with them,” Neville told Sky Sports.
Earlier in 2022, Ronaldo was in a similar situation to the Liverpool superstar after criticizing Manchester United. He had stated that he had no respect for then-Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag before joining Al-Nassr on a free transfer in January 2023.
Meanwhile, Salah’s future is still up in the air with a few Saudi Pro League clubs reportedly monitoring his situation. He will depart Liverpool’s camp to compete in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday, Dec. 15.
