With Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah’s name on everyone’s lips following his accusatory interview against his side, a host of pundits have offered their thoughts on the matter. Manchester United great Patrice Evra has compared the Egyptian to Cristiano Ronaldo.
But, why did the former France left-back liken the Liverpool attacker to Ronaldo?
Mohamed Salah Emulated Cristiano Ronaldo Last Week, Claims Pundit
Sharing his two cents on Salah’s media appearance last Saturday, Evra claimed that the ex-Chelsea star’s actions reminded him of Ronaldo’s bombshell interview with Piers Morgan in 2022. He also claimed that the 33-year-old Egyptian’s time at Liverpool is up.
“It reminds me a little bit of when Cristiano did the interview with Piers Morgan (before leaving Manchester United in 2023). People sometimes forget we are human beings and we can get hurt. And I feel like when I heard what Salah said, I feel like someone is hurting a lot. The backlash he had from the fans is just ridiculous,” the five-time Premier League winner told Stake (via Fox Sports).
Evra added, “Like what he achieved for the club, but at the same time, when you’re not playing well, sometimes you need to accept being on the bench. I feel like he’s not going to play for Liverpool again. You never know, Liverpool could perform better without him and they’re going to maybe let him go in January. Sometimes it’s not always good to talk with your heart, but I see it as a no return for Salah.”
Salah, who has not played in three of Liverpool’s last four matches across competitions, is seemingly frustrated with being made a scapegoat for the Reds’ struggles. He has recently popped up as a transfer target for the likes of Al-Hilal, San Diego FC, and Chicago Fire, as per The Athletic.

What Did Ronaldo Say in His Explosive Interview in 2022?
After struggling in the initial stages of the 2022-23 campaign, Ronaldo revealed he had no respect for then-Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag in an interview with Morgan. Similar to Salah, he had also asked questions of his club’s management.

“Manchester United tried to force me out (in the summer of 2022). Not only the manager, but the other two or three guys who are around the club (at the senior executive level). I felt betrayed. I feel that some people didn’t want me here, not only this year but last season too,” Ronaldo had said (via ESPN).
Soon after his interview, Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr on a free transfer in January 2023.
