Mohamed Salah will enter the final stages of his Liverpool contract this summer, and he has been linked with a move away. A fresh report has emerged, highlighting a key hurdle that could block his transfer.
Mohamed Salah Linked to Saudi Pro League Switch
Liverpool extended Salah’s contract in 2025 after fans rallied behind the Egyptian. He initially stated he had not been offered a new deal, but the situation was resolved by the end of the 2024-25 season.
However, the current campaign has not gone as expected, and the winger has failed to produce the numbers anticipated. He was dropped from the starting XI by Arne Slot, after which he criticized the manager and the club, saying they were forcing him out.
The former Chelsea man has been linked with an exit at the end of the season, with BBC Sport reporting the move is “increasingly likely” to happen. The hurdle, however, would be his hefty wage demands, which only Saudi Pro League sides could match.
The winger currently earns about £400,000 per week from the contract signed in 2025. He will have one year left on his deal at the end of the season.

The report also suggests MLS clubs are monitoring him, though none have been named. In the Saudi Pro League, Al-Ittihad made a move in 2023, and Al-Hilal is said to be interested following Neymar’s exit in 2025.
One club that will not pursue him is Al-Kholood. Its chairman, Ben Harburg, said it was not ideal for any team in the league to sign Salah. He added that the 33-year-old is not good enough anymore, telling the World Football Summit in Riyadh in December 2025:
“There’s a narrative around him that they asked him to come before and he rejected us. These are not people that like to be spurned and are going to come back around the second time.
“So I do think that there’s already, even amongst the public, much more apprehension around his coming into the league. He’s 33 years old, he got paid a boatload (at Liverpool)… and has underperformed massively since then.”
The chairman said the league should focus on players like Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior instead, noting they would improve the league’s quality. He added that the Brazilian would not be using it as the final stage of his career, but playing in the league during his peak.
