Despite being reintegrated into Liverpool’s lineup last weekend, Mohamed Salah’s outburst about his situation at the team is still one of the hottest topics of discussion. And a former Manchester United star has now hinted Salah has an issue with another Liverpool ace.
But what is the identity of the mystery Liverpool player, and why was he name-checked?
Pundit Claims Mohamed Salah Is Unhappy About Liverpool Ace’s Importance
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has insisted Salah lost his cool in front of the media after watching Cody Gakpo start week-in, week-out for Liverpool. He has asserted that the Egyptian felt undermined by Reds head coach Arne Slot’s decision to stick with Gakpo.
Neville: ‘He (Salah) will not sit down and watch Gakpo play football, these players don’t sit and watch players that are INFERIOR.’
Somebody has FINALLY said it.

“He will not sit and watch Gakpo play football, Mo Salah, let’s be clear. Let’s be respectful to Gakpo. These players with their ego, with their ability, and what they have achieved, they don’t sit and watch players they think are inferior. They just don’t,” Neville said on the Stick to Football podcast (via X/@KayLFC05_).
Salah, who has not started in all of Liverpool’s last five games, has bagged five goals in 20 club appearances across competitions this season. The 33-year-old has also registered four assists for the Merseyside outfit in 1,588 minutes of action so far.

Gakpo, on the other hand, has started 18 of his 21 appearances in all competitions for the Reds in the ongoing 2025-26 campaign. The 26-year-old, who is out with a muscle problem now, has also registered five goals and four assists for his club this term.
Salah’s Liverpool Teammate Receives Praise From a Pundit
Former Watford star Troy Deeney has lavished praise on Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike, who bagged a brace in the Reds’ recent 2-0 Premier League win over Brighton & Hove Albion.
“The most underrated striker in the Premier League. Two goals in back-to-back games. The kid scores. He comes off after 70 minutes for Alexander Isak. Fantastic signing. He will be pushing Erling Haaland all the way for most goals,” Deeney wrote in his BBC Team of the Week column.
Deeney, who scored 47 goals in 165 Premier League matches as a player, added, “This kid is mustard… he’s the real deal. Another one who will be looking at the World Cup and thinking he’s got to go… he can play off the left-hand side with Kylian Mbappe for France.”
Since departing Eintracht Frankfurt in a potential $106 million move in the summer, Ekitike has scored 10 goals and provided one assist in 23 total matches for Liverpool.
