2014 FIFA World Cup Winner Says He Is Ready To Join Al-Nassr ‘Because Cristiano Ronaldo Plays There’

Former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund star Mario Götze has revealed his wish to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been in the limelight for most of his playing career due to his number of team and personal accolades, as well as his record-breaking performances. And one star has claimed that he is keen to play alongside the veteran at Al-Nassr in the future.

Bundesliga Ace Keen To Team Up With Cristiano Ronaldo

During a recent interview with MBC, Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Mario Götze claimed that he has been impressed with the Saudi Pro League’s continual growth in the recent past.

“The development of Saudi Arabian soccer has been positive, there are many young players who want to play there… this will increase the pace of the games and the technical level in Saudi Arabia. It’s important to give young players the opportunity to become professionals and experience new things,” the 33-year-old former Germany international said.

Götze, who scored the winner against Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup final, was then asked which Saudi Pro League club he would like to secure a move to if given a chance. “If it were up to me, I’d choose Al-Nassr because Cristiano Ronaldo plays there,” he replied.

The 2011 Golden Boy award winner burst onto the scene at Borussia Dortmund, helping his boyhood club win two Bundesliga titles under legendary manager Jurgen Klopp. He secured a transfer to Bayern Munich in 2013 and notched three more Bundesliga titles.

After a three-year spell at Bayern Munich, he rejoined Dortmund but endured a tough time between 2016 and 2020 due to recurring injury issues. He tried his luck at Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven afterwards before joining Frankfurt in the summer of 2022.

Having experienced difficulties with his body in the past six or seven years, Götze is hoping to end his playing career on a more positive note now. Opining on his current goal, he said, “Winning titles is no longer my primary goal… what matters now is enjoying the game and staying physically ready to perform at my best on the soccer pitch.”

Götze, who has also won four DFB-Pokal trophies so far, has been utilized as a squad option at Frankfurt in the ongoing 2025-26 season. He has yet to find the back of the net and has laid out two assists in 1162 minutes of action across 24 total matches this campaign.

With his Frankfurt contract set to expire this June, Götze could decide to join Al-Nassr on a Bosman move this summer. He would get the chance of sharing the pitch with players such as Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Kingsley Coman, João Félix, and Marcelo Brozović.
