Manchester United is actively monitoring potential reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window, aiming to strengthen its squad and improve performance during the remainder of the Premier League season.
As the transfer window approaches, Manchester United has firmly joined Manchester City, Tottenham, and Liverpool in the pursuit of Antoine Semenyo, setting up one of the most heated battles of the window.
Manchester United Leads Rivals In Race to Sign Semenyo
The latest reports indicate United may capitalize on market uncertainty to sign the 25-year-old striker, who is currently unsettled at Bournemouth. The Red Devils took the lead in the race to sign the player ahead of their Premier League rivals.
Manchester United also faces concerns over the absences of Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo due to the Africa Cup of Nations. At the same time, Ghana, despite qualifying for the World Cup, won’t compete in the continental tournament.

Despite financial constraints, United are seen as the favorites to sign Semenyo. The anticipated £65 million fee (via Transfermarkt), however, could impact plans to sign a midfielder at the end of the season due to PSR rules.
Recently, coach Ruben Amorim was asked about the possibility of working with Semenyo and took the opportunity to praise the athlete.
“Bournemouth has a special player. He can play on both sides with both feet. I think there are many special players in the league. What I feel is that this sums up the top coach, top team. I really like the team and the top player. I think he is a special player,” said Amorim.
Manchester United Had Issues With Semenyo Recently
Semenyo recently faced United in a Premier League match that ended in a 4-4 draw, scoring the equalizer. He was also involved in a confrontation with Diogo Dalot just before halftime, grabbing the player by the throat and receiving a yellow card, but he remained on the field.
At 25, Semenyo’s strengths include aerial duels, direct free kicks, and dribbling, with seven goals and three assists in 15 Premier League matches (2025/26). He is a physically imposing forward/winger with explosive speed, outstanding acceleration, and the strength to protect the ball.
Also, his athleticism makes him a threat both in quick offensive transitions and in stationary phases of attack. Semenyo excels in quick transitions, as rapid ball recoveries are followed by bursts of speed into the space behind the defense. He leads Bournemouth in both deep passes received and meaningful ball carries with progression towards the attack. However, he still struggles with crossing, ball control, and commits frequent fouls.
United will next face Aston Villa away this Sunday (12/21), hoping to overtake Crystal Palace and Chelsea and move into 4th place with a victory and favorable results from rivals.
