Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes was involved in a verbal exchange with an Aston Villa fan during their Premier League loss at Villa Park.
Manchester United Captain Bruno Fernandes Loses Cool on the Bench
Aston Villa sealed a 2-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday, December 21, but the main talking point from the game was Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder picked up an injury in the first half and was forced off at halftime.
The former Sporting CP star remained on the bench with his teammates for the second half, where he became involved in an exchange with an Aston Villa fan. The 31-year-old appeared unimpressed by chants coming from behind the bench and fired back, saying (via The Sun):
“You sing more for me than for your team. Don’t be angry because I always score against you.”
Manchester United fans were handed concerning news after the match, as manager Ruben Amorim confirmed Fernandes would miss several games. Amorim said the issue was soft tissue-related and would likely sideline the club captain for a few weeks.
He said (via ESPN):
“I think it’s soft tissue, so it’s going to be a while. I think he’s going to lose some games, I don’t know for sure so let’s see. You never control these things so we’ll see. He’s a guy who is always fit so he can recover quite well but I don’t know.”
“I think he [Fernandes] is not going to play for a few games, but we’ll see. Last year we had the same situation at this time so it is not going to kill us, it is going to make us stronger. The kids did well today, and we have to work with the players that we have, no excuses, and try to win the next one.”
Fernandes has been Manchester United’s best player this season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in the Premier League.
Manchester United Were Open to Selling Bruno Fernandes in the Summer
Fernandes dropped a bombshell earlier this month, telling Canal11 that Manchester United were open to selling him in the summer. He said the board were more interested in the financial return than doing everything possible to keep him, but he ultimately chose to stay.
Fernandes was linked with a move to Al-Hilal during the summer and confirmed that he held talks with the Saudi Pro League side.
