Manchester City fans were stunned on Tuesday night when their club lost to FK Bodø/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League. The players have now come out with a special gesture for the fans who traveled all the way to the Arctic Circle for the match.
Manchester City Fans To Refund Fan Tickets After Shock Loss
Manchester City had a tough weekend, losing 2-0 to Manchester United in the Premier League. It was an unexpected result, as the Cityzens were in fine form while the Red Devils were on a winless streak and had a new head coach.
Things got worse on Tuesday, January 20, when the side traveled to Norway to face FK Bodø/Glimt. They suffered a 3-1 loss, with Rodri sent off, after the home side took a stunning 2-0 lead, with Kasper Høgh getting a brace inside the first 24 minutes.
Jens Petter Hauge made it 3-0 to the Norwegian side just before the hour mark, but a quick reply from Rayan Cherki saw the Premier League side pull one back. However, all chances of a comeback were squashed after Rodri got sent off two minutes after the goal.
The City players have decided to apologise to the 374 fans who travelled to Norway by refunding their tickets. The club’s captain’s group, which includes Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Erling Haaland, and Rodri, has issued a statement and said:
“Our supporters mean everything to us. We know the sacrifice that our fans make when they travel across the world to support us home and away and we will never take it for granted. They are the best fans in the world. We also recognise that it was a lot of travelling for the fans who supported us in the freezing cold throughout a difficult evening for us on the pitch.”
“Covering the cost of these tickets for the fans who travelled to Bodo is the least we can do. We’re ready to fight on Saturday for our game against Wolves and then again next Wednesday when we face Galatasaray in front of our amazing fans at the Etihad.”
Haaland issued an apology in his post-match interview straight after the game, saying that his failure to score goals was the key reason for the loss. Manager Pep Guardiola was also at a loss for words following the defeat, but said it has been a tough start to 2026, as they have won just twice in their last seven matches.
