Manchester United is in a tricky situation, with no permanent manager, an interim manager currently in charge, and reports suggesting the club is looking for a caretaker manager until the end of the season. The sacking of Ruben Amorim has put the Red Devils in a difficult spot, at least from the outside, and clubs around Europe have taken notice.
Juventus Keen on Signing Manchester United Star
When clubs transition from one manager to the next, players’ futures are often left in the balance. While top players usually maintain a secure place in the next cycle, fringe players and those nearing the end of their contracts are often left in limbo for extended periods.
Some survive, some are told to leave out of nowhere, while a select few are given the opportunity to jump ship when another club shows interest. Juventus is hoping to capitalize by luring one Manchester United star whose future at Old Trafford is far from guaranteed.
According to a report in Calciomercato, Noussair Mazraoui is on the Old Lady’s radar, and they are keen on signing him this month. The Moroccan star is currently on AFCON duty, and his performances for club and country this season have impressed decision-makers in Italy.
Following Amorim’s exit, Darren Fletcher has shifted to a back four, making things more difficult for Mazraoui at the club. He previously featured as a right center back in a back three, but with only two center backs required, his opportunities could be limited.
Harry Maguire, Matthijs De Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, and Leny Yoro are all ahead of him in the pecking order, and with Ayden Heaven impressing lately, Mazraoui has slipped further down the depth chart. The former Bayern Munich star’s next-best position is right back or right wing-back, where competition remains fierce.
Diogo Dalot is the No. 1 choice at the club, and with wing-back roles currently eliminated at Old Trafford, Amad Diallo and Patrick Dorgu could also push for minutes at right back, even if it is not their natural position.
Mazraoui will need to decide on his future soon, and a move to Juventus could be on the cards. Manchester United have blocked exits during the January window, as they are reluctant to lose players midseason.
The $25 million defender will enter the final two years of his contract at Old Trafford this summer, and Luciano Spalletti’s side is expected to renew its interest.
