Soccer players have shorter careers than many other athletes. Their peak lasts just around 4-5 seasons, and then they have to either move away from the top or get ready to be benched. Premier League stars need to be at their best throughout the season, a minimum of 40 goals, including the cup competitions, and they cannot afford any significant drop.
Especially in modern times, when clubs tend to build squads with two players per position, it has become increasingly complex for stars to keep their starting XI spots. Liverpool is no different, and they have spent big this summer to add competition.
Liverpool Star Hints at Exit As Contract Talks Continue
One such position is left-back, where the Reds brought in Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth for a reported $53 million. The signing meant Andrew Robertson’s time at Anfield was coming to an end, and the club had prepared for his exit.
Things became clear for the Scotsman after the season started, when Arne Slot began to pick the new signing over the veteran in the starting XI, despite the poor form.
Robertson has now hinted that his time at the club might be coming to an end. He is set to take a call on his future, but only after discussing it with his family. Speaking to the media, the former Hull City left-back said he has five months to decide and plans to give it serious thought.
“I’ve got five months left, and we need to see what the option is to stay or if there’s options to go and things like that. I need to sit down with my family and decide,” he said.
The Scotsman is proud of his contribution to Liverpool, where he has won the Premier League title twice and the UEFA Champions League once.
He claims to have given it his all on the pitch for the Reds and said:
“I’ve given absolutely everything for the club for the last eight and a half years, and the club have been very good to me – they’ve rewarded me with good contracts when I have been playing well. Nobody can deny what I have given to this club. I’ve given everything day in and day out and put in some performances which I think have been good.”
Robertson has played 362 matches for the Reds so far, scoring 12 crucial goals and getting 68 assists as a left-back.
