Liverpool Hold Edge Over Premier League Rivals in Race to Sign $76 Million Forward in January

Liverpool could beat Manchester City and Manchester United in pursuit of a 25-year-old next month, according to a journalist.

Liverpool are currently enduring a difficult 2025-26 season due to tactical frailties, internal rifts, and injury issues. As a result, they are expected to bolster their squad in the January transfer window despite spending around $566 million in the summer.

Now, a transfer insider has claimed that the Reds are in pole position to sign an attacker.

Insider Sheds Light on Future of Liverpool-Linked Star

During a recent discussion on Sky Sports, insider Kaveh Solhekol suggested that Arne Slot’s outfit is Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo’s preferred destination.

“If Liverpool come in for him, he’ll go to Liverpool. Liverpool is too good a move to turn down. They have been big admirers of him. They have looked at signing him before. They also have a track record of signing players in January. Luis Diaz looked like he was going to Tottenham, and at the last minute, Liverpool came in for him. Cody Gakpo looked like he was going to Manchester United,” Solhekol said.

“Liverpool don’t get involved in a bidding war. They wait until the last minute, until other clubs almost do a deal for a player, and then they make a phone call to say they will match the deal. Liverpool are expected to have a quiet January. There is money to spend,” Solhekol continued.

Solhekol also claimed Alexander Isak’s new injury could force Liverpool to sign Semenyo.

“Sometimes they move quickly to get a summer target in if they think they are going to go somewhere else. Over the next few days, especially in light of Isak’s injury, there will be discussions over whether they make a late move for Semenyo,” the insider concluded.

Semenyo, who is valued at $76 million by Transfermarkt, is enjoying an excellent campaign for Bournemouth this term. The 25-year-old Manchester City and Manchester United target has recorded eight goals and three assists in 16 Premier League matches this season.

How Serious Is Isak’s Recent Injury?

This Saturday, Isak sustained a leg injury moments after scoring Liverpool’s first goal in their 2-1 Premier League victory at Tottenham Hotspur. He was on the receiving end of a tackle by Spurs defender Micky van de Ven in the 56th minute.

Isak, who left Newcastle United to join Liverpool for around $168 million in the summer, is expected to have suffered a broken leg, according to The Athletic. The 26-year-old attacker could reportedly be sidelined for at least a few months.

So far this season, Isak has scored three goals in 16 overall appearances for Liverpool.
