Former Liverpool Star Darwin Nunez Once Again on Move After Underwhelming $63 Million Stint

Darwin Nunez has drawn transfer interest from an European club months after leaving Liverpool for Al-Hilal, as per a journalist.

Liverpool restructured their entire squad after selling several players, including Darwin Nunez. And now, the Uruguayan striker could allegedly be on the move again, with a European club interested in him in the winter transfer window.

Darwin Nunez Could Move to Second Club After Liverpool Exit

According to reputed journalist Ben Jacobs, Turkish club Fenerbahce have made an enquiry about Nunez’s availability in the middle of the season. They are believed to be discussing a potential short-term loan move for the attacker with Al-Hilal.

Nunez, 26, ended his three-year stint at Liverpool in August, completing a $63 million transfer to Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal. However, he has struggled to impress at his new club this season, scoring just 7 times in 22 total matches.

The former Benfica forward could decide to depart Al-Hilal for Fenerbahce as his team has recently signed Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad on a permanent move. He would be able to get regular minutes at Fenerbahce due to Youssef En-Nesyri’s winter exit.

With the Turkish winter transfer window set to close this Friday, Feb. 6, Nunez still has time to decide on his future. His addition could help Fenerbahce in the Super Lig title race, with the club currently sitting in second place behind rivals Galatasaray.

On the other hand, Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has hinted that Liverpool star Hugo Ekitike is a better striker than Arsenal summer signing Viktor Gyokeres.

Asked if he would take Gyokeres over Ekitike, Rooney replied on The Wayne Rooney Show, “No. Ekitike and (Granit) Xhaka at Sunderland have probably been the two best signings in the Premier League. I really enjoy watching Ekitike play. His second goal [in the 4-1 home win against Newcastle] in particular was brilliant, it reminds me of Romario.”

“He is the type of player I like to watch. He’s not a number nine, he’s not a number 10. He drifts out wide, he gets on the ball, brings players into the game… and he can score goals. So he’s got a bit of everything really. I really enjoy watching those type of players. He’s got that arrogance and confidence,” the ex-Red Devils striker concluded.

Since arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial fee of $93 million past July, Ekitike has emerged as one of the Reds’ best players this season. The 23-year-old has contributed 15 goals and four assists in 32 overall outings for his new club so far.
