Some Manchester United players were not fond of Ruben Amorim and are reacting to his sacking. The current set of players love social media, but they just cannot keep themselves out of these controversies and news.
Kobbie Mainoo ‘Likes’ Post Mocking Ex-Manchester United Coach
Amorim’s sacking was the big news of the week by Monday morning. The Portuguese coach had been hanging by a thread for months and was finally given the marching orders after calling out the club’s leadership following the draw with Leeds United.
He wanted to be Manchester United’s manager, not a coach, but his comments sealed his status as ‘former coach’ within hours. The 40-year-old got a stunning $13.5 million as compensation, just 14 months after the Red Devils paid double that amount to sack Erik ten Hag.
The sacking, along with a big fat payout, saw fans making fun of the club and Amorim on social media. One such post was done by “That Guys Jokes” on Instagram, with a text on the video saying staff at Carrington were surprised to see Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff leave the training ground laughing and joking,” after a photo of the manager smiling on his way out just minutes after the sacking was announced.
While it appeared to be just another post, GOAL caught an interesting ‘like’ on it. Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo responded, drawing further attention.
The youngster was not getting enough chances at the club this season, and reports suggested that he was on his way out in the January window. Napoli and Chelsea were looking to sign him, but with the manager sacked, the Englishman is expected to stay at Old Trafford and play under interim manager Darren Fletcher.
Mainoo has played 40 games under Amorim. This season, he has played just 11 games across all competitions, totaling 221 minutes, with just one complete game, the Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town.
Interestingly, Mainoo was not the only player to ‘celebrate’ the sacking. Former Man U star Alejandro Garnacho also reacted to the club’s decision soon after it was announced.
The Chelsea winger had training on Monday, but ensured he had the final laugh in the feud with Amorim that led to his exit from the Red Devils in the summer of 2024. He ‘liked’ Fabrizio Romano’s post just minutes after the journalist posted the news on Instagram.
