Who Is JJ Gabriel? Meet Manchester United Talent Who Has Drawn Comparisons to Messi and Neymar

Manchester United has a teenager who has been compared to Lionel Messi and Neymar, but will he make his first-team debut soon?

Manchester United is known for producing some of the best talents in the world. It is no surprise that the club has an astonishing record of featuring an academy player in every matchday squad for 88 years, a tradition that began in 1937.

JJ Gabriel: Manchester United’s Rising Star

Young players often look up to world-class stars and try to replicate their games. When they eventually manage to refine those traits — especially by blending the best qualities of multiple players — the results can be special, leaving coaches mesmerized by what they have on their hands.

One exciting talent emerging from Manchester United is Joseph Junior Andreou Gabriel, commonly known as JJ Gabriel. The 15-year-old has already earned the nickname “Kid Messi” and has been compared to Neymar for his dribbling ability and flair as he continues to run riot in the U18 division this season.

The teenager has scored 10 goals in 13 U18 Premier League games this season and also found the back of the net in a win over Peterborough in the FA Youth Cup in December, making him the Red Devils’ youngest goal scorer in the competition’s history.

Reports suggest the club is doing everything it can to ensure Gabriel continues his development at United and has even offered him an executive box in the club’s new stadium, which is set to be completed in 2030. The teenager has been training with the first team this week, and fans were hopeful he would make the matchday squad for the FA Cup clash against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Interim manager Darren Fletcher heaped praise on the youngster in his pre-match press conference ahead of the FA Cup tie, saying:

“JJ is a fantastic talent, and I’ve enjoyed working with him immensely. There’s a lot of noise around him and deservedly so because he’s a really talented kid who works hard and loves his football. He makes fantastic decisions and has got an enthusiasm for the game that’s just amazing. I’m super excited by his talent, and he has a bright future ahead of him. But the most important thing is that he keeps developing as he’s still got lots to learn.”

However, Fletcher ruled out a debut for the teenager this weekend, saying it was too early to hand him a first-team opportunity.

“His time will come in due course, but for now it’s a little bit early I think and a lot of people would agree with me. But I couldn’t speak highly enough of JJ. He’s got an amazing family and amazing support around him and he’s somebody we’re delighted to have at the club. The world is his oyster, and he just needs to go on his journey.”

Manchester United fans are eager to see JJ Gabriel in action soon, much like Arsenal supporters have with Max Dowman.
