Inter Miami Target German Berterame Issues Response When Asked About Joining Lionel Messi in MLS

Inter Miami finally has some answer after they made a big move to sign Germán Berterame from Monterrey this month.

Inter Miami is keen to bolster its attack ahead of the 2026 season and has been linked with Germán Berterame. The Monterrey star has broken his silence amid reports that an offer has been made for the striker.

Inter Miami Target Comments on Possible MLS Move

Luis Suarez has had his contract extended at Inter Miami, but the Eastern Conference side is aware that the Uruguayan cannot play all matches. They need a long-term replacement and identified Berterame as the ideal candidate.

Berterame spoke to Claro Sports this week and revealed that his main focus in 2026 is doing well for Mexico at the FIFA World Cup. The striker dreams of representing his nation at the World Cup and said:

“I always try to give my best with the national team, so I’m very happy. It’s a dream for me and for everyone who gets called up to the national team. We have to stay focused on that.”

When quizzed about a possible move to Inter Miami, Berterame said he had yet to consider the interest. He was on vacation and is now set to hold talks with Monterrey and the MLS side this week before deciding on his next step.

“I’m doing well. Right now, I was very focused on the national team. I just arrived today. So now it’s time to enjoy my family, and we’ll analyze it this week. Like I said, I’ve just arrived, and I’ll look at it during the week.”

The interest in Berterame has been well documented in the media since Jorge Mas confirmed that they had made an offer for the striker. The MLS side’s co-owner told the media this month that they were keen on luring the forward and said:

“German Berterame is a great player. There is an offer from Inter Miami for German Berterame. I repeat that we aspire to have an extraordinary roster to give Masche [coach Javier Mascherano] the tools he needs and [Berterame] is a quality player that deserves to be on our roster.”

The Athletic has reported that Inter Miami and Monterrey have agreed on a $15 million fee for the striker. He is expected to occupy one of the Designated Player slots at the Eastern Conference side.

Should Inter Miami manage to agree terms with Berterame, it would be a huge step towards the CONCACAF Champions League goals set by the owners for this season.
