Inter Miami are in the process of reshaping their squad following Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba’s retirements. Lionel Messi’s team has already signed Rodrigo De Paul for around $17 million and Sergio Reguilon on a Bosman move for the 2026 season.
And now, Miami are reportedly aiming to rope in a 28-cap Argentina international.
Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami Eyeing Move for Argentine
As per information revealed on ESPN’s Raza Deportiva podcast (via Reporte Indigo), Messi’s club has earmarked Tigres UANL striker Angel Correa as a top target. However, Tigres are reluctant to allow their player, whose current contract will run out in June 2030, to leave.
Correa, who is reportedly on a $4 million annual salary at Tigres, left Atletico Madrid to join his current club for a transfer fee of over $9 million earlier this July. He has scored 15 goals and laid out four assists in 27 games across all competitions for the Mexican outfit so far.
Should Correa manage to cut short his Tigres stint and join Miami next year, he could prove to be a brilliant signing for Messi’s side. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner could start either on the left wing or in a number nine role, acting as a backup to Luis Suarez.
Prior to joining Tigres, the 30-year-old bagged 88 goals in 469 total matches for Atletico.
Former Miami Player Makes Bold Claim About Messi
Former Miami and FC Dallas ace Brek Shea has claimed that Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo would have had a greater impact in Major League Soccer (MLS) than Messi.
“I think Cristiano Ronaldo would have had a bigger impact in MLS than Lionel Messi. No disrespect to Messi, but Messi seems like a homebody. He’s very quiet. He doesn’t speak the language quite well yet. So, I just think Ronaldo seems more outgoing, does more things in the public eye,” Shea told Jackpot City Casino (via GOAL).

The former United States men’s national team (USMNT) international continued, “So I think just on that, speaking the language, doing interviews, I think would have just automatically had a bigger impact. I’m strictly speaking off field stuff. I don’t know if he would have put up the same numbers, but a bigger impact? Yes, he would have.”
Since arriving on a free transfer in July 2023, Messi has helped the Herons lift three trophies and won two back-to-back MLS Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards. On the other hand, the Portuguese superstar has won a single trophy at Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr.
