Barcelona’s La Masia is known as one of the best academies in the world. They produce some of the best players, and it is no surprise that rival clubs keep tabs on their players and lure them away at every chance.
Hansi Flick Comments on Barcelona youngster Dro Fernandez’s Exit
Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez is one of the brightest talents coming out of Barcelona, and the youngster is now set for a surprise exit. Hansi Flick has given the Spaniard a chance in the first team, but with a $7 million clause in his contract, the club is powerless to stop him.
The German coach was quizzed by the media today ahead of the Real Sociedad clash, and he was furious with the youngster and his entourage. He initially refused to answer questions about Dro, saying that the teenager was still part of the club and that a transfer could fall through at any time.
He was willing to only after the move was sealed, but when Marc Bernal and Marc Casado, who started in the Copa del Rey match this week, were mentioned, the German coach hit out at Dro and his entourage for pushing for an exit.
“I don’t know. My idea is for everyone to stay. Dro’s situation isn’t finalised yet, but it’s football. These are players who are 17 or 18 years old, but there are people around them who make decisions. But I don’t want to say anything more.”
Flick later hinted that the manner of exit was unprofessional, saying that the youngster in the club’s academy should keep their head down and work hard. He wants them to realize that every training session is important and they should fight hard for the positions.
“My message is about daily training. When players arrive with potential, we have a plan to monitor their training, performance, and attitude, to see if they’re professional… We’re a big team, and it’s not easy to get playing time. That’s clear. But every training session makes these players better. This is the normal process, and when they deserve to play, then of course they play.”
Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez was linked with Chelsea and Manchester City earlier this week, but reports do not suggest that PSG is leading the chase. They are close to sealing the move in a similar fashion, as they did when they signed Neymar by activating his €222 million release clause in 2017.
