Arsenal are struggling for goals this season, and their top scorers this season, Viktor Gyokeres and Leandro Trossard, have just five goals each.
Gary Lineker believes that they need to sign the Chelsea target to win the Premier League title.
Arsenal Told To Sign Striker Months After Buying Viktor Gyokeres
The Gunners have been linked with a move for Julian Alvarez, with the Argentine said to be a key target for the summer. Mikel Arteta’s side is keen to bolster its attack and see the Atletico Madrid star as an ideal candidate.
Lineker picked up the topic on the latest edition of The Rest is Football podcast, saying that the squad is currently missing a forward who can constantly score goals. He spoke about Gabriel Jesus doing well after returning from his injury, adding that the Brazilian can only perform when he is confident.
“They’ve not got anyone really banging in the goals on a regular basis. Gabriel Jesus has come back and scored one or two but there was a reason they needed to sign a new No. 9 in the first place. I like Jesus and always have, he’s got a great work ethic, he chases and harries and does get a few goals. He’s a bit streaky – when he’s on he’s on but when he’s off he’s a bit of a confidence player.”
However, Lineker believes that the Gunners need Alvarez to take them from their current level to one that guarantees them the Premier League title. He added that the forward knows how to handle the pressure and said:
“It’s probably complete b*** as most of these things are on social media, but I saw they were linked with Julian Alvarez, who I know is not entirely happy with life at Atletico. Now that is the sort of player you know can handle the big occasion – he’s a World Cup winner for crying out loud. Someone like that at Arsenal would be game over. But they do need one or two of these current forwards to start scoring on a reasonably regular basis.”

Atletico Madrid is reportedly planning to rebuild its squad and is ready to sell a host of players. Alvarez is reported to be among them, but they want $118 million for the former Manchester City star.
Chelsea and Barcelona are also interested in signing the forward when the summer transfer window opens.
