Cristiano Ronaldo has recently emerged as a hot topic of discussion following his decision to go on strike at Al-Nassr. As a result, his future at the Saudi Arabian side is considered up in the air, with one pundit opining on a potential team-up with Lionel Messi.
Cristiano Ronaldo-Lionel Messi Team-Up Factor Revealed
During a recent chat with GOAL, former Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps, and Chicago Fire striker Robert Earnshaw was asked if Ronaldo and Messi could play together. He stated that Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham would be a decisive factor.
“If there was a place that could happen, it would be a club like Inter Miami. Unfortunately, I don’t think it will ever happen. All of the fanatics, we would love to see them play in a team one day and work together before they both retire. I don’t think it will happen, but, if there was a chance, David Beckham would be the one to make that happen,” he replied.
However, Earnshaw further asserted that the possibility of the two soccer greats playing side by side is too far-fetched, given their respective stature and egos.
“I can’t see it ever happening… because you have two dominant figures that wherever they play, whatever team, it is their team. It might have to be a neutral team because if Ronaldo is going to go to Inter Miami, that is Messi’s team. And I don’t think that will happen. Same thing the other way around,” the former Wales international commented.

Earnshaw concluded, “If it was ever going to happen, it would have to be in a neutral team they have both never played for. I hope we see it one day. Rewind back, they used to have the Rest of the World side versus a team from Europe that used to get together. That might be the only way that we see these two come together in one team.”
Since arriving on a free transfer in July 2023, Messi has triumphantly asserted his authority at Inter Miami. The 38-year-old Argentine has guided the Beckham-owned club to a total of three trophies, including their maiden Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup.
On the other hand, Ronaldo has just lifted the Arab Club Champions Cup at Al-Nassr during his three-year spell. He could also depart his team before the end of his contract next June due to his disappointment with how the league is currently run.
