‘People Didn’t Talk About Him’ – Ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid Star Eden Hazard Names Most Underrated Teammate

Eden Hazard has made a bold claim and named Chelsea's rival star player as the most underrated player he has played with in his career.

Eden Hazard is easily one of the best players to ever play in the Premier League. The Belgian has played with some of the top players during his career, and he has now picked the most underrated player.

Eden Hazard Picks Chelsea Rival’s Star As Underrated Star

Hazard played for Chelsea and Real Madrid during his club career and was part of Belgium’s golden generation. He called it a time on his career in 2023 after struggling with injuries following his move to Spain.

He was talking to The Guardian when he was quizzed about the most underrated player he has shared the dressing room with in his career. He was quick to name Mousa Dembélé, his Belgian national teammate.

The Chelsea icon claimed that the former Tottenham star was one of the best midfielders of the generation and was underrated by fans around the world. He believes that Premier League fans know the Belgian’s qualities, but he was not given enough credit for his career and said:

“I always thought Mousa Dembélé was one of the best midfielders of that generation. People didn’t talk about him much because he didn’t score goals, but the fans in the Premier League know he was a top, top player.”

Hazard faced Dembélé nine times in his career, including the infamous Battle of the Bridge game in the 2015/16 season. Tottenham had a 2-0 lead in the match when the Chelsea legend came off the bench to help his side get a point from the match by making it 2-2.

The Belgian icon combined with Diego Costa to score into the top corner, making it 2-2 in the 83rd minute. The point did little for the Blues, who finished 10th in the table, but it saw Leicester City crowned champions and ended all hopes Spurs had of winning.

In the same interview with The Guardian, Hazard named the goal as his favorite goal in his career. He claimed in 2016 that ending the hopes of Spurs was a big achievement for him, as the Chelsea fans did not want their London rivals winning the league.

Apart from that game at Stamford Bridge, Hazard’s drew two other matches when they faced Tottenham, while Dembele played. He won three battles against his national teammate, including the League Cup final in 2014/15 and the FA Cup semifinal in the 2016/17 season.

He lost three matches to Dembélé in his career, all in the league – twice away and only once at Stamford Bridge.
