Cristiano Ronaldo has played under a host of managers throughout his career, leading many fans to forget a few of them. He has good things to say about most of them he has worked with, and that is reciprocated.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Old Comment on Manchester United Coach Goes Viral
Manchester United are looking for the next manager, and Michael Carrick is set to be handed the role until the end of the season. The Red Devils are close to appointing the Englishman on a short-term deal, until they finalize the next permanent hire.
The club’s leadership are unwilling to gamble and rush the appointment once again, having parted ways with Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim in the last 14 months. Following the sacking of the Portuguese manager last week, Darren Fletcher was handed the role for a week, and he failed to impress. The former midfielder picked up a point against relegation-threatened Burnley and was knocked out of the FA Cup by Brighton & Hove Albion.
In the meantime, Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Carrick were being interviewed for the caretaker role until the end of the current season. The Norwegian was touted for it, but the Englishman seems to have taken the lead and is close to being appointed.
The 44-year-old took charge of three games when the Red Devils parted ways with Solskjær in 2021, and Cristiano Ronaldo played in all of them. The Portuguese started against Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League and Arsenal in the Premier League, while coming off the bench against Chelsea.
The Portuguese superstar scored three goals in those matches, blanking in the only match he did not star. He gave a glowing review of Carrick after working with him for a short spell and posted on X (formerly Twitter) in December 2021:
“Michael Carrick was a class act as a player and he can become a great coach as well. Nothing is impossible for this guy. Personally, I’m proud to have played with him by my side as well as with him as a manager on our bench.”
While he played just three matches under Carrick, the Englishman does not hold the record for being the manager with the fewest matches in Ronaldo’s career. Vítor Severino takes the reins for that title, having managed just two matches at Al Nassr following the exit of Luis Castro in 2024.
