How Many Games Will Cristian Romero Miss After Second Red Card of Season During Manchester United Clash?

Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero received his second red card of the season after a challenge on Manchester United star Casemiro.

Argentina and Tottenham Hotspur man Cristian Romero was sent off in his side’s recent 2-0 Premier League away loss against Manchester United. And he is now set to serve an added period on the sidelines, instead of the usual three-match suspension.

Cristian Romero’s Fate After Manchester United Red Card Revealed

On Saturday, Feb. 7, Tottenham slumped to their 10th league loss of the ongoing campaign at the hands of Manchester United. They lost Romero in the 29th minute of the match after the Spurs captain was shown a straight red for a challenge on Casemiro.

Subsequently, Manchester United made the most of their man advantage as Bryan Mbeumo netted the opener in the 38th minute. Bruno Fernandes doubled the tally for the Red Devils in the 81st minute against the Thomas Frank-coached outfit.

Romero, meanwhile, will serve a four-match ban in the Premier League, with his recent red card being his second of the 2025-26 campaign. His first sending off came in a 2-1 Premier League loss against Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Dec. 20.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner will first miss Spurs’ home clash against Newcastle United on Feb. 10. He will then be unavailable in the home clash against Arsenal on Feb. 22, away match at Fulham on Mar. 1, and home game against Crystal Palace on Mar. 5.

Meanwhile, former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson has lambasted Romero. He said on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, “It’s an absolute nightmare for Thomas Frank, a disaster. As a manager, you are sitting in 14th and you’re going, ‘My captain has come out and said this’. Now he leaves his team down to 10 men. I’m baffled.”

“As a captain, you’re supposed to lead by example. But you leave your side vulnerable, 10 men at Old Trafford. You’re losing your captain and one of your best players. He has let his team down again today,” Dawson, who used to captain Spurs, said.

Romero, who received his sixth red card in a Tottenham shirt in the loss against Manchester United, has made 27 appearances across all competitions for his team this season. The 27-year-old star has registered six goals and four assists so far this term.

On the other hand, the Spurs are currently winless in their last seven Premier League matches. They are in 14th place in the league table with just 29 points from 25 matches, boasting an unimpressive goal difference of 0.
