Chelsea star Moises Caicedo has established himself as one of the top defensive midfielders in the world over the last couple of seasons. However, ex-Blues midfielder Claude Makelele has issued a warning to the Stamford Bridge outfit regarding the Ecuadorian.
Chelsea Told To Hand Moises Caicedo Better Teammates
During a recent interaction on Sky Sports, Makelele asserted that Caicedo is one of the best midfielders before urging Chelsea to sign more experienced teammates to help him out.
The two-time Premier League winner said, “Chelsea need to put some good players around him for him to still be the best midfielder… because if he plays all the time with the young boys, of course he will give them experience, but his performances will go down.”
As of now, Caicedo has a reputed teammate such as Enzo Fernandez in Chelsea’s midfield. However, the rest of his midfield partners are unseasoned stars like Andrey Santos, Romeo Lavia, and Dario Essugo and as a result, he has to often overexert himself.
Caicedo, who turned 24 last November, is one of the first names on the west London club’s starting lineup due to his grit and consistency. He featured in a whopping 4289 minutes of action, across 50 total games, for the Blues last season, according to Transfermarkt.
The Ecuador international, who left Brighton & Hove Albion in a potential $155 million move in 2023, has continued to be a dependable player for Chelsea this campaign. He has netted four goals in 25 overall club outings, featuring in 2019 minutes, so far this term.
After Chelsea’s 5-1 FA Cup third round victory over Charlton Athletic last Saturday, Caicedo expressed his excitement over working under new Blues head coach Liam Rosenior.
“I think he just wants discipline and effort from us, in training, in games. We have started really well with him and for sure, we are going to do a lot of good things with him,” the ex-Brighton midfielder told club media.

Caicedo added, “We are so pleased with the win because we knew Charlton are so difficult to play against, so the (opponents) were good. It’s a battle when you play against a team like them, but our team was prepared. I think we did very well and we won the game.”
The 24-year-old star will miss the Stamford Bridge side’s EFL Cup semi-final first leg game at home against Arsenal on Wednesday, Jan. 14 for picking up too many yellow cards.
