We are less than 100 days away from the FIFA World Cup, and Mauricio Pochettino is in the final phase of selecting his squad. Former USMNT star Charlie Davies has now made an interesting comment on Christian Pulisic.
Christian Pulisic Backed To Make USMNT’s FIFA World Cup Squad
Pulisic sat out of the USMNT squad for the Gold Cup under Mauricio Pochettino, citing a need for a mental break. The AC Milan star wanted to address his fatigue, and since then, questions have been raised about whether he should be called up for the FIFA World Cup.
The former Chelsea winger’s injury issues have also been a concern, with him missing a match this calendar year due to bursitis, while muscle and hamstring issues have also affected him this season. Former USMNT star Davies was asked by GOAL if it would be fair to drop Pulisic from the World Cup squad, and he quickly disagreed.
Davies said it should be acceptable for players to take breaks to address their burnout, rather than making it a big issue. He admitted that former players are unlikely to accept it, but believes that players should not be dropped from the final squad because of such decisions.
The former wants players to be given a chance based on their form, and hailed Pulisic as the best attacking player in the country. He does not see a reason not to call up the AC Milan star, given how he has done this season, and said:
“For me, it’s ‘how does the season end?’ This might be a little lull for Christian, but if he comes back and is in his best form when the season ends, that’s all that matters. He’s the best attacking player we have. He’s the best creative player we have.”

Davies added that Pulisic remains committed to the national team despite the Gold Cup decision, and he wants the former Chelsea winger in the team as long as he is fully fit.
“He’s committed to the national team, and everyone knows it – especially in that locker room. I’m seeing it. I’m aware of that too. So for me, it’s just have them be 100 percent healthy and particularly in form at the end of the year.”
Mauricio Pochettino is expected to name his squad for the upcoming friendlies against Portugal and Belgium in the coming days, which will be the final games before the final squad for the FIFA World Cup is announced.
