Manchester United are heading toward a defining summer, with Casemiro’s impending exit set to reshape the club’s midfield and wider rebuild. With major funds reportedly available, Old Trafford decision-makers are already weighing up proven Premier League options who can anchor the next era.
One name is said to stand out above the rest, and the recommendation may have come from Casemiro himself.
Casemiro Backs Bruno Guimarães As Manchester United Plans a $230 Million Summer Rebuild.
According to Spanish outlet AS, United’s hierarchy is bracing itself for a major summer transfer spree, with the search already underway for a midfielder capable of leaving a lasting legacy at Old Trafford. Replacing Casemiro, however, will not come cheaply.
In January, Casemiro said this season would be his last at Old Trafford, bringing an end to his time in Manchester. In his own words:
“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life. From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club. It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.”
His exit is likely to spark significant transfer activity, with reports suggesting United could have about $230 million to spend on rebuilding the team.
Old Trafford chiefs are said to be prioritizing players with proven Premier League experience, following the success of summer signings such as Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. With substantial funds available, United could make aggressive signings.
Among the names reportedly high on the club’s shortlist are Bruno Guimarães, Sandro Tonali, and Elliot Anderson. Newcastle’s Guimarães is viewed internally as a “foundational player for the future,” someone capable of anchoring the midfield for years to come.
Tonali, currently impressing in England after his move from AC Milan, is also admired, while Anderson’s energy and adaptability make him another appealing option.
Casemiro himself is believed to have recommended that the club explore a move for his fellow Brazilian Guimarães. Having established himself as one of the Premier League’s most complete midfielders, the Newcastle midfielder combines defensive discipline with creativity and leadership traits that mirror many of his own strengths.
United has made informal contact with the representatives of Tonali and Guimarães, but no agreement has been reached with the clubs. Newcastle would likely only allow one of the two to leave.
Known as tough negotiators, the Magpies proved their bargaining power with the historic $165 million transfer of Alexander Isak last summer. Any deal for either player would likely surpass that figure.
Since joining from Real Madrid in 2022, Casemiro has added experience, leadership, and a winning mindset to United’s midfield. As he gets ready to leave, the club must find someone who cannot only have the same impact on the pitch but also help lead United into its next chapter.
With about $230 million to spend and a clear plan taking shape, this summer could be a key moment in Manchester United’s long-term plans.
