Several USMNT players face pivotal moments in the transfer window. Ahead of the World Cup, Joshua Sargent took drastic action to seek a departure from Norwich City. Much speculation followed Sargent’s decision to go on strike during the transfer window, sparking significant interest from other clubs across Europe. However, his attitude was not well-received by Brad Friedel, one of the greatest idols in USMNT history.
USMNT Legend Disapproves of Logan Sargent’s Strike at Norwich City
In an interview with Optimobet, Friedel praised Sargent before criticizing his decision to go on strike. The striker is considered one of the most complete players in the Championship today, having scored 31 goals over the last two seasons.
Sargent is under contract at Norwich until summer 2028 and is actively trying to terminate it. Toronto FC has made an offer to bring him back to North America before the World Cup, but negotiations have recently stalled.
“I would say this, Josh is a lovely guy, a really nice guy. I don’t think as a player you should ever say you are not playing. That’s bad. I don’t know if he was advised to do it or if he did it on his own. Bad decision. Never do that.”, said Friedel.
He added, “You have to train, and you have to play your games. When players do that, they do not think about the rest of the working staff that is at these clubs. They do not think of the fans that pay the money to come and watch. They do not think about all the auxiliary situations that happen that affect, in a negative way, when you make decisions like that.”
Sargent’s Key Tactical Qualities
One of the USMNT’s current star players, Sargent is a classic center forward with a finisher’s profile and physical presence, capable of playing with his back to goal, linking up play, and attacking the spaces behind the defensive line. The striker also works hard defensively and has the physical stature to battle with defenders.
Sargent is excelling this season with 7 goals in 23 games, showing strong expected goal figures and consistent chance creation. He finishes efficiently and remains highly active in the final third challenges.
His main qualities are getting into dangerous positions inside the box and attacking spaces, finishing with both feet, unbalancing defenders with his runs, and using his physicality to press and force mistakes.
Sargent struggles in elaborate possession systems, especially the one favored by Mauricio Pochettino at USMNT, where he becomes isolated and receives the ball in areas that limit his dribbling.
