EFL Championship club Wrexham have gone from strength to strength under the ownership of Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac over the last five years. And, ex-Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster has sung the praises of the Welsh side’s chairmen.
Wrexham Owners Receive Glowing Praise From Former Player
During a recent chat with PA Media, ex-England and Manchester United star Foster lavished praise on Reynolds and Mac, who officially took over Wrexham in February 2021.
“Rob and Ryan didn’t really know what they were doing when they took over a soccer club. They invested money… but they also put their personal interest and energy into it in a way you rarely see. I genuinely think if you asked them what they’re most proud of, Wrexham would be right up there,” the 42-year-old.
Five years ago, Reynolds and Mac’s outfit were playing in the National League, the fifth tier of the English league system. They won their first promotion in 2023 with the help of Foster and have secured two more promotions against all odds since then.
Foster, who came out of retirement to help the Welsh club end a 15-year exile from the EFL in the 2022-23 term, further shared his thoughts on the acting duo’s influence.
“To take something you didn’t fully understand and build it into what it is today… you have to take huge pride in that. It’s amazing. Non-league promotion, promotion, promotion, and already being in promotion places at this level is outrageous. I said a year or two ago that I thought they’d be in the Premier League within four or five years,” he added.

“Getting out of the Championship is a big ask, it’s a tough, competitive league with a lot of money involved. But they’ve done it the right way, they’ve given the manager the power to bring in the players he wants. There’s no reason why they can’t keep progressing, because as an achievement, it will never be replicated again,” Foster concluded.
With 15 league games left, Wrexham are currently in sixth place in the Championship table with 47 points from 31 matches. Should they maintain their current place until the start of May, they would feature in the four-team Championship playoffs.
The Phil Parkinson-managed outfit, which recently lost 2-0 to Millwall at home, will next be in action in a FA Cup fourth round contest. They will face Championship team Ipswich Town at their Racecourse Ground this Friday, Feb. 13.
