Chelsea started a new era under new head coach Liam Rosenior this January, with the Englishman keen to provide a fresh start to the Blues. And Rosenior has hinted that one of his side’s defenders could be back playing for the senior team in the near future.
Chelsea Outcast Expected To Feature After One Year
Ahead of his team’s UEFA Champions League match against Pafos this Wednesday, Jan. 21, Rosenior stated he is open to Chelsea star Axel Disasi’s return to first-team action.
“I had a really good meeting with him a couple of days ago. I wanted to catch up with him, see where he was in terms of his career. I said to the players when I came in… it’s a clean slate for everybody. Because of the situation he’s been in, he’s behind in match fitness. We will keep working with him really, really hard to get him up to speed,” Rosenior said.
Disasi, who left AS Monaco to join the Blues for £39 million in August 2023, was included in Chelsea’s infamous ‘bomb squad’ by former head coach Enzo Maresca last summer. He has been playing for his club’s U-21 team alongside Raheem Sterling for several months.
The 27-year-old, who last played for the West London outfit on Jan. 20, 2025, could make a comeback in Chelsea’s senior team due to Tosin Adarabioyo’s recent hamstring injury. With Levi Colwill also out for the season, the Frenchman is likely to get ample game time.
However, Daily Mail journalist Kieran Gill is of the opinion Dthat isasi could either be offloaded or sent out on a winter loan again despite being acknowledged by the Blues head coach.
“They are cautiously optimistic they can secure a centre-back signing. Despite (Axel) Disasi having his first-team exile ended by Rosenior, there remains the possibility he could leave this month, even if he has been given a clean slate,” Gill wrote in a column.

Gill also revealed Chelsea target and Stade Rennais defender Jeremy Jacquet’s price tag.
“Jacquet is the frontrunner ahead of (Como’s Jacobo) Ramon and (Bournemouth’s Marcos) Senesi. Rennes are valuing him at around $82 million, but Chelsea are looking at closer to $53 million, not including add-ons which could take it towards $64 million,” Gill wrote.
A right-footed towering centre-back, Jacquet has turned heads with his good performances at the heart of Rennes’ defense this campaign. The 20-year-old has helped his side register five clean sheets in 17 appearances across competitions in the ongoing season.
