Manchester United takes on Tottenham in the Premier League this week, with both sides in contrasting forms. Alan Shearer was making his prediction for the match and made an interesting claim in his column.
Alan Shearer’s Interesting Prediction for Man United vs Tottenham
Man United sacked Ruben Amorim in January and has looked like a new side ever since. Their appointment of Michael Carrick has worked wonders as they have won three matches on the bounce and are pushing up the table.
They are unbeaten in their last five league matches and sit five points behind third-placed Aston Villa. They are looking to close in on Unai Emery’s side, who have lost two of their last three games.
Tottenham is heading in the opposite direction. In the last 9 matches in 2026, they have won only 2 and gone winless in the first 5 games. They are 14th in the Premier League table and just nine points clear of the drop zone.
The two sides now meet at Old Trafford this week, and Shearer believes there is a clear winner. He has backed the Red Devils to win the game and added that Benjamin Sesko will be the one to watch.
The Premier League Hall of Famer said that the winner against Fulham would have given the striker the confidence boost he needed to get his career up and running with the Red Devils. He wrote in his Metro column this week and said:
“With Spurs, their away form isn’t too bad. Having said that, Man United are at home and flying. For that reason, I’ll go for a Man United win. Benjamin Sesko got a big goal last week but hasn’t really started at Man United, he’s been in and out so it’s very similar to Newcastle’s situation with their strikers. He has to show a lot more, but that goal will do his confidence the world of good and he will be hoping he can play a big part again this week.”
Sesko has scored five goals in the Premier League this season, assisting once in the 19 appearances for the Red Devils.
He joined them for a whopping $100 million in the summer, but has been fighting for the starting role with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, the latter of whom has been starting up front since returning from AFCON last month.
