After the Dallas Cowboys reportedly missed out on a blockbuster trade for Maxx Crosby earlier in the offseason, Jerry Jones has been urged to get Cleveland Browns superstar Myles Garrett. NFL analyst Skip Bayless believes Dallas should not hesitate if Garrett truly becomes available. He argued that Jones now has a chance to pursue an even more complete defensive star.
His stance was not just about adding another pass rusher, either; it was also about comparing Garrett directly to one of the Cowboys’ biggest defensive names in recent years. With Dallas still searching for more edge help and the rumor mill continuing to swirl, Bayless made it clear he sees Garrett as a franchise-changing answer.
Why Skip Bayless Believes Myles Garrett Offers More Than Micah Parsons
Bayless made his case during his latest appearance on “The Arena: Gridiron” podcast while discussing the possibility of Dallas making another major defensive splash after falling short in its pursuit of Crosby.
Framing the debate through a Cowboys lens, he argued that Garrett offers more all-around value than Micah Parsons because of his contributions beyond rushing the passer.
“I know from my voice. This is just me, call Jerry,” said Bayless. “If I ran the Browns right now, there’s no way I’m gonna trade the best pass rusher in football because it’s too hard to find that guy. This guy is better than Micah Parsons, and I’ve said that on the show several times. He’s a better football player than Micah Parsons, because he does play the run, he does set the edge, he does everything.”
Bayless then expanded on why he believes Garrett belongs in a rare tier historically, pointing to his production and accolades as proof that his impact goes beyond weekly splash plays.
“He is the best, and he’s one of the greatest to ever do it… He’s still got some more football left here, but he’s gonna rise into that… This man has been First team all-pro five of the last six years and he’s won now two defensive players of the year,” Bayless added.
That praise comes as Garrett enters another offseason after a dominant 2025 campaign in which he recorded 23 sacks and added yet another Defensive Player of the Year award to his résumé.
Why Jerry Jones Should Seriously Consider a Trade for Garrett
Bayless also explained why the fit makes sense specifically for Dallas, especially given Garrett’s Texas roots and the Cowboys’ recent willingness to explore blockbuster moves.
“If I’m Jerry Jones, I’m looking for a lifeline,” said Bayless. “I’m looking for a better Micah. It’s on a silver platter to say, okay, allegedly, reportedly they tried for Maxx Crosby, who’s about a year and a half younger.
“The only thing that concerns me about Myles is he’s 30. And that’s the magic number in the NFL. You look at all the free agents left on the list right now, and there are a bunch of them. They’re all 30, right?”
He added, “And you went through it. You know how it feels. And all of sudden they’re saying, well, you’re 30-something, right? But do I think he has three first team all pro years left in him?

“Yes. Do I think he would be revitalized to go home because he grew up in Arlington, Texas, went to Arlington Martin High School in the shadow of Jerry world, went to Texas A&M, yes…but when you literally grow up within sight of Jerry World. It carries weight.”
He even floated what kind of package Jones should be willing to part with if Cleveland ever opens the door: “Whatever it is, just do two ones if they would take two ones and you don’t have to space them now. They’re talking about something five years out.”

Whether Garrett actually reaches the trade market remains the biggest question. But if Dallas is still hunting for an elite edge presence after missing on Crosby, Bayless has already made his position clear: If the chance comes, Jones should not overthink it.
