Gordon’s current ADP is 97th overall as the 38th running back selected in fantasy drafts. This means he’s being taken in the eighth round of standard leagues. Other players drafted in his range include Kenneth Walker and Michael Carter.
Gordon currently sits at No. 75 overall and RB33 on our 2022 running back rankings. He suffered a foot contusion in mid-August that cast some doubt on his availability, but the injury shouldn’t affect his status for Week 1. The 29-year-old has missed at least one game in all but one season of his seven-year career.
That said, Gordon has produced well as a backup and starter alike. His time with Denver has been rejuvenating since he’s benefitted from a good blocking line and red-zone opportunities. He’s an elite backup going at a reasonable ADP.
Gordon’s projected fantasy value in 2022
Gordon ranked 14th in 2020 and 13th in 2021 for his red-zone production. The new coaching staff may opt to use him differently as Williams is a more gifted athlete, but there’s not a great reason to. He puts his head down and gets into the red zone as well as almost anyone in the NFL.
Nathaniel Hackett and his staff will continue to prioritize the run even with Russell Wilson in town. Gordon may take a small step back as Williams continues to earn more of the market share, but he’ll retain value as a quality depth piece for managers. His upside, should Williams miss time, is that of an RB2 but for an unbeatable price.
