Shedeur Sanders is one of the most polarizing prospects in recent memory heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. Once considered a possible No. 1 overall pick early in the pre-draft process, new reports suggest he could slide.
The son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, Shedeur had a standout final season at Colorado. He threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, completing an NCAA-best 74.0% of his passes. He also added four rushing touchdowns.
Despite the production, questions remain about how his game will translate to the pros. NFL insider Ian Rapoport recently revealed which team has done the most research on the quarterback.
Ian Rapoport Shares Which Team Has Done the Most Research on Shedeur Sanders
While many still expect Sanders to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, his exact landing spot is uncertain. There’s a wide range of possible outcomes for the 2024 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. During a recent appearance on NFL Network, Rapoport stated:
“Let’s start with the Shedeur Sanders first potential landing spot and, of course, that would be the New York Giants picking three overall — still do not have a franchise quarterback, still do not have a quarterback of the future.
“Obviously, they have Jameis Winston under contract, Russell Wilson under contract, and no team has done more work on Shedeur Sanders than the New York Giants over — not just this year — but over the past two years. They’ve been to countless Colorado games, dinners, workouts, meetings, the whole deal. If they do not take him, it will be the one thing that the draft absolutely shifts on.”
The Giants are desperate for help at quarterback, even after signing Wilson and Winston. It is unlikely that the team views either of them as a long-term option.
After failing to develop their 2019 first-round pick, Daniel Jones (despite repeated attempts), and letting Saquon Barkley walk in the 2024 offseason, the Giants desperately need to find a new face of the franchise to sell to their fans.
Rapoport also noted that if the Giants pass on Sanders, there may not be many other first-round destinations left. He mentioned the New Orleans Saints as a possibility, but added that the Pittsburgh Steelers, who pick at No. 21, are likely the next real shot. If Pittsburgh also passes, Rapoport said it could be a long night for the former Buffaloes star.
Sanders addressed the speculation with a tweet on Day 1 of the draft, writing:
“I’m built for whatever today may bring.”
