A thrilling Game 2 to go up 2-0 left the entire NFL world in awe of the New York Knicks' domination over the San Antonio Spurs.

After they dispatched the reigning NBA champions, it seemed inevitable that the San Antonio Spurs would cement history. However, the New York Knicks buzzsaw that sliced through the Eastern Conference has left them puzzled through two games.

Taking both road games, the Eastern Conference champions were able to pull off a thrilling one-point victory to take a commanding lead. It left the entire NFL world stunned, as Victor Wembanyama could not pull off the unthinkable once again.

New York Knicks Leave the San Antonio Spurs Stunned in Game 2

After they stole home court in the first game of the series, a lot of the conversation boiled down to the Spurs not playing their best basketball. Even their players appeared unperturbed by the loss, claiming they were the better team.

However, for the second straight game, in their home arena no less, they walked away defeated, this time falling 105-104. The Knicks’ stranglehold on the series led to a variety of reactions from the football world.

Former Dallas Cowboys star and huge Spurs supporter Dez Bryant was active throughout the game. As they opened the second half with a flurry to extend the lead to double digits, Bryant had to give props to Jalen Brunson. “Brunson letting it be known he’s a Star!”

However, it did not take away from his fandom for San Antonio. “I still believe Spurs! Let’s go!!” Unfortunately, the well-oiled machine of the Knicks was causing some serious problems for him and his squad.

Toward the end of the third quarter, though, is when another star emerged for the road team. Despite putting Mikal Bridges with four bench players, they were able to find success in those minutes, prompting Bryant to write, “Bruh..somebody needs to guard Bridges… damn!”

Even Ryan Clark saw the invaluable contribution from Bridges, who finished the game with 20 points while shooting 8 of 13 from the field. “Bridges is coming up so big for the Knicks right now!”

Brian Baldinger of the NFL Network couldn’t contain his excitement after the win, as he exclaimed, “.@knicks. Get the brooms out! 13 straight! the Anazing Knicks.” For folks on the Spurs side, the feeling was completely opposite.

Bryant was back at it, as a downtrodden “F*CK BRO” told the story of everyone in San Antonio. However, the former three-time Pro Bowler wasn’t willing to give up hope just yet. “4 more games, Spurs!”

Going down by 14 points in the fourth quarter, the Spurs mounted a furious rally to tie the game at 97 points apiece. It seemed to be a fait accompli from Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe, who called the turnaround a necessity for the group.

“All Spurs trying 2 play hero 🏀. Spurs better make a run in the next 5 mins, or Knicks will blow them out.” From there, they even got the lead, but a careless turnover from Wembanyama put Brunson at the free-throw line.

The mistake from Wemby ultimately turned out to be too costly, with the careless play immediately drawing the ire of Sharpe. “Wemby, what did you just do? Just call a timeout, coach.”

While they got a chance to win the game with over 7 seconds on the clock, the ensuing jumper from Wemby did not fall, giving the Knicks a 2-0 series lead. His shot selection, while smooth in the flow of the game, drew some criticism online.

Breiden Fehoko, formerly of the Los Angeles Chargers, who has become very active on social media, had some harsh words for the French-born superstar. “Aye, Wemby. You are 7’5 how are you this big and soft? Next time, have some respect for the National Anthem, you big piece of French baguette.”

On the night, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year finished with 29 points (22 in the second half), 9 rebounds, and 6 stocks. However, for much of the first half, he was once again outmatched by Karl-Anthony Towns, who has become the story of the series.

Long mocked for his defense and motor, the sweet-shooting big man has been the biggest difference-maker in the series. From making life extremely difficult for Wembanyama on offense to being an engine on the other end, his constant attacks to the rim have made it impossible for Wemby to have his usual defensive impact.

After a thunderous dunk over the only unanimous DPOY in NBA history, the former first overall pick even had some choice words for the youngster. Dan Orlovsky was quick to catch it, writing, “KAT walking off the court saying ‘he can’t f___ with me.'”

Ultimately, though, after an electric game with the proper intensity of the Finals and some huge swings in either way, Orlovsky and the rest of the viewing public couldn’t help but agree. “What a great game.”

Teams falling down 0-2 at home haven’t fared well in the NBA Finals, virtually throughout NBA history. Now, as the odds continue to be stacked against them, it remains to be seen if this young Spurs team, led by a phenom, can do the unthinkable and mount a comeback.
