Seahawks QB Depth Chart: Examining Seattle’s Quarterback Room After Adding Jalen Milroe in NFL Draft

The Seattle Seahawks drafted Jalen Milroe after signing Sam Darnold, adding long-term upside behind their bridge QB in a retooled quarterback room.

The Seattle Seahawks’ quarterback room looks a lot different heading into 2025. After trading Geno Smith and signing Sam Darnold, the Seahawks doubled down and added Alabama’s Jalen Milroe in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. With four quarterbacks now in the mix, Seattle’s clearly banking on competition and long-term development at the most important spot on the roster.

Seattle Seahawks QB Depth Chart After Drafting Jalen Milroe

Sam Darnold

Seattle’s offseason began with a significant move: trading veteran quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders. This trade not only marked the end of Smith’s tenure but also provided the Seahawks with the 92nd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. With this pick, Seattle selected Alabama’s Milroe, signaling a new direction for the team’s quarterback strategy.

To fill the immediate void, the Seahawks signed Darnold to a three-year contract during free agency. Darnold, reuniting with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak from their time in San Francisco, is expected to lead the offense in 2025. Seattle is optimistic that this reunion can help Darnold tap into his full potential.

Jalen Milroe

Selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Milroe brings a unique blend of athleticism and potential to Seattle’s quarterback room. During his tenure at Alabama, Milroe posted a 21–6 record as a starter. In 2024, he threw for 2,844 yards and rushed for 726 yards, totaling 36 combined touchdowns. Despite some mechanical flaws, his upside as a developmental quarterback is evident.

Draft analyst Nick Baumgardner noted, “Milroe might need two years before he’s ready to start,” labeling him “a developmental pick, to be sure, but an interesting one for a team with some time to spend on one.” This timeline aligns well with Darnold’s current status as a bridge quarterback.

“A dangerous weapon on zone reads, options and powers, Milroe is an explosive athlete with the speed to rip off big gains at any moment,” wrote Dane Brugler, who also noted that “his disjointed mechanics disrupt the rhythm in his drops,” affecting his consistency. Still, Milroe’s athletic ceiling is rare.

Sam Howell

Acquired last year, Sam Howell underwhelmed in his performances, leading to questions about his future with the team. With the addition of Milroe and the return of Lock, Howell may find himself as the odd man out, especially if the coaching staff’s faith continues to wane.

Drew Lock

Drew Lock returns to Seattle after a brief stint with the New York Giants. Familiar with the Seahawks’ system, Lock offers veteran insurance but isn’t seen as a developmental long-term answer. His experience and knowledge of the playbook make him a reliable backup option.

Seahawks QB Outlook in 2025

The Seahawks have strategically structured their quarterback room to balance immediate needs with future potential. Darnold is poised to lead the team in the short term, while Milroe develops under his mentorship. Lock provides experienced depth, and Howell’s position remains uncertain. Seattle’s approach reflects a commitment to fostering internal competition and preparing for long-term success at the quarterback position.
