Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley has been dealing with a knee injury ahead of the team’s Thursday night matchup with the New York Giants. Barkley probably doesn’t want to miss this clash with his old team.
With Barkley nursing that injury, NFL fans and followers have wanted to know if he actually will be available to play in this Week 6 game.
What’s The Latest on Saquon Barkley?
There’s good news for those who have Barkley, who was the No. 2 overall pick by the Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft, on their NFL fantasy teams along with Eagles fans. Barkley was a full participant in the team’s practice on Wednesday, so he’s good to go on Thursday night.

In five games this season, Barkley has carried the ball 83 times for 267 yards and three touchdowns. His best game this season so far was on September 14 in a 20-17 Philadelphia victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Barkley had 22 carries for 88 yards and one touchdown.
His longest run in the game was a 13-yarder. Barkley also was targeted in the passing game twice by Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts against the Chiefs, catching both balls for six yards.
Barkley played six seasons for the Giants, winning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2018. In his first season out of Penn State, Barkley rushed for 1,307 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. He also had 91 catches for 721 yards and four touchdown receptions.
As his career with the Giants continued, injuries started to pile up. He suffered a torn ACL and a number of ankle injuries, too. Some of his injuries might have been due to the Giants’ poor offensive line and the subpar turf at MetLife Stadium.
But Barkley did leave quite an impression with his play for Big Blue. In his six seasons, Barkley rushed for 5,211 yards and 35 TDs on 1,201 carries. Entering the 2025 NFL season, Barkley ranked fourth in yards, sixth in touchdowns, and fourth in attempts.
Additionally, Barkley proved to be an effective pass-catching option. He totaled 288 catches for 2,100 yards and 12 touchdowns.
So, Barkley has an incentive to play against his old team on Thursday night. The Eagles need Barkley to be powerful as their offense revolves not only around Hurts’ passing game but Barkley’s ability to bust through the offensive line and get yardage. The one thing that fans might want to watch out for against the Giants is if that turf causes him any problems.
