Saquon Barkley Injury Update: Latest on the Eagles Superstar After Scary Moment in Week 7 vs. Vikings

Trying to avoid losing 3 in a row, the Philadelphia Eagles may have suffered a huge blow in the form of running back Saquon Barkley.

After two consecutive losses, the Philadelphia Eagles needed to get back on the right track against the Minnesota Vikings. Going against a team ravaged by injuries gave them a real chance to set things right, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.

It seemed like things were on the right track as the team reached the red zone once again in the fourth quarter while already having 21 points on the board. Unfortunately, that’s when tragedy struck, as superstar running back Saquon Barkley seemed to go down with an injury.

What Happened to Saquon Barkley?

Coming off one of the greatest seasons by a running back in NFL history, the expectation was sky high for Barkley to put together another legendary campaign in a bid for the Eagles to maintain their level of success.

However, he was off to an extremely slow start through the first six weeks of the season. Those problems compounded in Week 7, when he was trying to spin out of a tackle, and he was taken down hard and came out of the game with a shoulder injury.

It is unclear how severe the injury truly is. But for a Philadelphia team trying to get things right, it might be the biggest hurdle they have to overcome. Even with the sting of the injury, the Eagles chose to send him back into the game for the final two minutes.

With Minnesota keeping it a one-possession game, Philly tried to burn some clock by handing him the ball. However, he could only manage a gain of just one yard before the Eagles went back to the passing attack on the next two snaps, the latter of which gave them the game-winning first down.

How Does Barkley’s Injury Impact Fantasy?

Barkley still looks great when he has space, but this season hasn’t been anywhere near as good as last year. The 2,000-yard rusher has been more of a back-end RB1 than the elite option he was drafted to be.

Behind Barkley, the Eagles do not have any clear handcuff. Will Shipley, AJ Dillon, and Tank Bigsby are the other backs on the roster. Shipley is the presumptive next man up, but he’s been injured for much of the season.

If Barkley has to miss time, Shipley and Dillon need to be added, but fantasy managers will have to wait and see what the hierarchy looks like. The Eagles may go more pass-heavy if Barkley is sidelined.
