‘It Just Keeps Getting Worse,’ ‘Saints Cursed’ — NFL Fans React to Latest Update on Alvin Kamara’s Major Injury

Alvin Kamara’s MCL sprain has Saints fans concerned as the star running back faces nearly four weeks of recovery that could threaten his Week 1 status.

The New Orleans Saints caught a break with Alvin Kamara’s latest injury update, but it was hardly the news they wanted during training camp. What initially looked like a very serious injury turned out to be a sprained MCL, giving the team some relief while creating a different problem.

Kamara is expected to miss at least one month, and his recovery now becomes one of New Orleans’ biggest concerns heading toward Week 1.

Alvin Kamara’s Knee Injury Puts Saints’ Week 1 Plans in Question

Kamara suffered the injury during a joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys after taking a hit to his knee. He left the field with a trainer, immediately raising concerns about the severity of the setback.

Further medical evaluations, however, found no ligament tears, meaning the Saints avoided the worst-case scenario.

The veteran running back is expected to miss roughly four weeks. This recovery window will keep him out for the rest of the preseason and could prevent him from being ready for the Sept. 13 game against the Detroit Lions.

The timing creates an obvious challenge for the Saints, who ranked 29th in PFN’s NFL Offense Impact Metric last season. Kamara now has limited time to recover and regain his rhythm before the regular season, while New Orleans must prepare its offense for the possibility of opening the year without one of its most important playmakers.

The injury also generated an immediate reaction across NFL social media.

One fan, Tank, captured the frustration among Saints supporters with a blunt reaction: “Saints cursed.”

Meanwhile, SportsBruiserz pointed to the team’s growing injury list, writing, “It just keeps getting worse for Saints fans. Tyson out for 2 months, and now Kamara.”

Another fan, JakePera17, took the frustration a step further, posting, “Just cancel preseason atp (at this point).”

“Talking Grit: Detroit Lions Podcast” also noted the Saints’ growing list of concerns, posting, “Saints are going into week 1 with some notable injuries. Tyson, Bresee, Kamara.”

Not every reaction focused only on Kamara’s immediate recovery. A user on X named Zone questioned whether the Saints should consider the bigger picture, writing, “Dawg! I don’t doubt he still has the ability, but availability is the best ability and this man is almost NEVER available the last couple years. Time to explore a move.”

Fantasy football fans also reacted strongly. Fabo posted, “Yeah, his fantasy career is over.”

Onyx Odds took a broader view of the situation, simply writing, “The NFC South this preseason,” while sharing a picture of four non-threatening dragons.

ESPN’s Sam Block acknowledged the setback while pointing to the Saints’ depth, writing, “The Alvin Kamara injury news is awful for the Saints. But this is why depth matters. This is why having 2 great backs matters. Etienne is a stud & will be huge for them. Depth matters.”

Travis Etienne Jr. Could Become Key Piece During Kamara’s Absence

New Orleans does have an experienced option ready to absorb a larger workload. The Saints signed Travis Etienne Jr. to a major four-year contract during free agency, and his role should expand while Kamara works through his MCL injury.

Etienne is expected to receive most of the first-team reps, giving the Saints an established back to lean on during Kamara’s recovery. Kendre Miller and Devin Neal have also returned to practice, adding more depth behind him.

Still, Kamara’s injury comes during an already difficult stretch for New Orleans. With several important players already sidelined, the Saints can take some comfort in knowing Kamara avoided a season-ending injury.
