The Tampa Bay Buccaneers can’t catch a break. After losing running back Rachaad White to an injury earlier in their preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans, Tampa Bay just lost another offensive weapon, as WR Ryan Miller also went down in the second half.
What Happened to Buccaneers WR Ryan Miller?
Miller suffered an injury in the third quarter of tonight’s game. After taking a rough hit, he was down on the field being attended to by trainers.
Luckily, he managed to walk off on his own. However, he is being evaluated for a concussion, and it seems likely that his day is over.
Trainers attended to Ryan Miller briefly after his catch. Took a good shot after the catch but walking off on his own.

Miller had been having a great game with six catches for 66 yards. A preseason star for the Buccaneers, he was once again showing what he could do before his outstanding performance was interrupted by this unfortunate injury.
Miller Fighting For a Spot in Tampa Bay’s WR Room
If there’s one position where the Buccaneers are loaded, it’s the receiver room. With Mike Evans, the most consistent receiver of the last 11 years, headlining the group, the Bucs also have Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka, Jalen McMillan, and Sterling Shepard among others. With injuries to Tampa Bay’s receivers last season, Miller got his first NFL receptions in 2024, tallying 12 catches, 128 receiving yards, and two touchdowns.
Miller had been a standout in the Buccaneers’ last two preseasons, helping him earn his opportunity to appear in the regular season last year. Once again, Miller is showing off his skills in the preseason. The problem for Miller remains the loaded receiving room in Tampa Bay.
With plenty of returning receivers — including young, exciting pieces like McMillan and Trey Palmer — plus the trio of veterans in Evans, Godwin, and Shepard, the path to playing time remains difficult. Also, Egbuka was a first-round pick, and they also selected Tez Johnson late in the 2025 NFL Draft. Egbuka is expected to play a key role in this offense as a dynamic receiving threat.
Miller is no stranger to adversity, though. He was a two-star recruit out of high school who committed to the Furman Paladins for his collegiate years. He went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft and signed with Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers released him, and he returned to the practice squad to work his way up the depth chart. Two years later, he’s sticking around, showing what he can do in the preseason once again.
Miller will make it tough on the Buccaneers’ front office to release him if he continues to perform like he did against Tennessee. The receiver room’s depth stacks the odds against Miller, but his performance certainly helps his case. Unfortunately, his injury robbed him of an opportunity to continue to shine, but the Buccaneers hope it’s nothing severe.
